Emma Seckel is a Canadian author. In addition to being an award-winning writer, she is also a photographer.
Emma spent four years that were completely windswept nestled in a little town located on the east coast of Scotland. There she was studying at the University of St. Andrews. She attended the school and graduated in 2017 with a Master of Arts honors in English as well as a vendetta against seagulls that was made to last.
When she is not busy taking photographs, writing, or spending time scrolling on Instagram, Emma can be discovered doing something like knitting sweaters for her friends and family that become increasingly elaborate.
Emma resides in Vancouver, Canada.

When it comes to the people of the island, they have only three rules that they really pay attention to. They have the rule that you don’t put your nose someplace that it is not wanted, the rule that you don’t mention the war, and the rule that when the month of October rolls around, you shouldn’t let your guard down.
Leigh Welles has not been to the island or set foot on it in years. Then she discovers that she gets called home from her life on the Scottish mainland thanks to the unexpected passing of her father. Suddenly she finds within herself the determination to let the sorrows of the past go and forget them entirely.
Whether it’s the abandonment by her mother, the icy distance kept by her brother, or the tragedy that was World War II, Leigh finds inside herself the desire to just release these things and start fresh once more. Iain MacTavish is another islander and a veteran of the RAF. He has his eyes on the sky but is stuck mentally in the past, and he also needs a new start.
He is a young widower who has been through so much in his life. Iain is doing his best to try and get back to the life that he knew as normal, something that existed long before the war. But is it even possible?
When it comes to this October rolling around, everything is far from normal. This month, the sluagh appear to be restless. They are bird-like creatures that are ominous and pulled from Celtic legend. They are animals who are rumored to be able to carry the souls of the dead and they have been haunting the islanders over the decades.
However, in the wake of the war, there are more wandering souls out there as well as more sluagh. Then things take a turn when a young man goes missing. Suddenly, Leigh and Iain are put together so that they can look into the truth at the dark heart of the island and find out more secrets that have been hidden on their own.
Full of historical detail, containing a speculative edge that can only be described as skillful, and paired with an intensive imagination, the author has written a debut that is transporting, interesting and propulsive. Check out The Wild Hunt and get to the bottom of this story of loss, love, and ultimately redemption and introduce yourself to a delightful new voice in fiction with Emma Seckel today.
