Jakob Kerr is an American published author.
Jakob is not only a writer but a lawyer. He also serves as a communications executive in the tech industry in San Francisco. He worked at Airbnb and was one of their first employees and worked for over a decade steering this company and taking the journey of working with a small startup that became known around the world.
He wasn’t always working in these fields. Jakob has held a variety of positions before these endeavors, working as a sports writer, a bartender, and even driving an ice cream truck for one afternoon. He spent fifteen wonderful years living in San Francisco. After being out there for some time, Jakob came back to the Pacific Northwest, the place that he originally was from. He is married and lives there today with his family, which includes his wife and children.
Jakob made his debut in the literary world in 2025 with the publication of Dead Money, his first novel.
Dead Money is the first novel to come out from Jakob Kerr. If you’re a fan of suspenseful fiction that feels like it could be a movie, this is a great book to check out. New York Times bestselling author Blake Crouch can also back the book. Crouch called this a ‘stone-cold banger of a novel’ and promises readers that it comes with ‘some wild surprises’.
You can call Mackenzie Clyde a lot of things. Just don’t refer to her as a fixer. This isn’t some television show on HBO.
Mackenzie is unofficially a problem solver for the most brutal venture capitalist in Silicon Valley. Throughout the course of working this job, she has become quite accustomed to playing things for high stakes. She seems to have a talent for wrangling those millions, but somehow it just never seems to translate over into her having a big payday for herself.
She’s usually so good at her job, but now she seems to have landed herself in a situation where she is dealing with things that are over her head. It might just be her imagination, but she’s going to have to go through it all first if she wants to see how it turns out. Mackenzie doesn’t have much of a choice, but anyone observing the situation would admit that it was unique.
The CEO of the hottest startup to hit the tech world in a while has been killed. It is definitively murder and not some accidental heart attack or anything like that. He had billions in his will, but it’s been frozen and has become ‘dead money’ at the moment.
Mackenzie’s boss was the main investor in the company, and as such has a lot of money at stake. The police are investigating but seem to be taking a cool approach to everything. Mackenzie thinks that if she wants things to be resolved, she’s going to have to quickly step forward and attempt to resolve them herself.
She knows that she is a lawyer and not a detective, but Mackenzie sees no reason why that should hold her back. She’s determined to get to the bottom of this killing and find out who did it. There are plenty of suspects out there, and many of them include some of the most powerful names and figures in the Valley. It’s all vaguely out of her league, but she’s motivated enough and confident enough to go ahead anyhow.
Mackenzie is no stranger to people deciding to underestimate her. But she’s counting on being underestimated and she’s going to do her best to try and show up and prove that she does have what it takes to solve this case. It’s not so much an investigation to her as an opportunity, and she refuses to let this chance slip through her fingers.
If she wants to get results, she’s going to have to go for it and seize the moment and try to do whatever it takes in order to solve this murder. Mackenzie might just be able to get some justice and maybe even get some of that money she’s always in the process of pursuing. Who knows what could happen?
With a likable female main character, great mystery writing, and twists that the reader won’t see coming, check out a mystery set in the world of the Valley and go on a great escape by checking out Dead Money by Jakob Kerr.
