Joan Cockin is a pen name that was used by Edith Joan Burbridge. She was born in 1919 and would go on to become a Foreign Office Spokesman.

Joan did not write many books in her time. The first two books that she released were Curiosity Killed the Cat and Villainy at Vespers. These two would be followed by another mystery, Deadly Earnest.

She was a British diplomat and belonged to the U.K. delegation at its first NATO and Council of Europe conference. She also enjoyed a second career as a consumer champion, managing to co-found the National and the Scottish Consumer Councils, acting as a Legal Ombudsman for Scotland, founding an Insurance Ombudsman Bureau and taking part in serving on a Royal Commission.

Curiosity Killed the Cat is the first book in the Inspector Cam Detective series by Joan Cockin. If you have been looking for a classic mystery story to enjoy and are tired of the same old same old stories, then check out this book and see what you think!

Little Biggling is a village that had been completely taken over by The Ministry of Scientific Research during the Second World War. Once the war had concluded, the Ministry had decided to remain. Many of the residents were annoyed by this fact.

However, it’s one thing to be irritated by the actions of a group, and it’s another thing to be murdered altogether entirely. It appeared that one of the members of the Civil Service who had been in the village had ended up being slightly too curious about just about everything and everybody in this town, and there would end up being a horrible price to pay for it.

Inspector Cam puts his head to the case, and he starts looking for leads or any type of information that could help him solve this murder. In the end, he starts noticing that he is not getting a lot of help when it comes to finding this person who has so much to hide.

Can Inspector Cam end up getting enough information to put together some type of case? Or is this one mystery that is simply going to go unsolved? Read the compelling first book in the Inspector Cam Detective series to find out!

Villainy at Vespers is the second book in the Inspector Cam Detective series by Joan Cockin. If you thought that the first book in this series was interesting, be sure to check out this sequel and follow along on another mysterious adventure!

Many things come into play when it comes to this story, from crooked antiques dealers to the lost art of brass rubbing to smuggling and more in this story of a man who was unidentified and discovered naked and what appeared to be ritually murdered on the altar in a Cornish church.

Inspector Cam is vacationing with his family and is surprised when the local police request his help to solve a mystery. A small Cornish village, the town of Trevelley has all types in it, from the strange tourists that come in from out of town to the eccentric locals that live there.

It doesn’t seem to much of a bother to help the local police, who must really need it. Heading up the investigation is the local policeman Honeywether, a man who is nearly incompetent. He gets the help of Inspector Cam, sweetening the pot by offering free beer, an offer that ultimately tips the vacationing cop’s mind and leads him to become part of the investigation.

Working together, Cam and Honeywether will do their best to try and figure out the naked corpse, who it is, and who it was that had a motive strong enough for them to want to kill this person and actually go out there and do the job.

As they start looking into it, Cam and Honeywether soon find that they are in the middle of a web of secrets, cover-ups and deceit. Can they figure out what is going on and get to the bottom of it? Or is this a murder so well done that despite their best efforts a killer is going to get away with it? Read this intriguing mystery to find out what happens and be swept away in this crime adventure from the second you start the first page!
