Kristy Boyce is an American published, New York Times bestselling author.
Readers may know her for writing books such as Dungeons and Drama, Dating and Dragons, Rolls and Rivalry, Hot Dutch Daydream, and Hot British Boyfriend. She was in high school when she tried out her first ever role playing game and has remained in touch with that group to this day, and they are all still friends. She even went on to marry the Dungeon Master.
These days, she teaches psychology at The Ohio State University, where she is a senior lecturer. She is also a social media coordinator for Central and Southern Ohio SCBWI.
Kristy resides in Columbus, Ohio. She is married and loves to spend quality time with her husband and her son. When she is not busy doing that, she can typically be found writing, reading, assembling fairy gardens, or watching reality television that makes her happy, such as ‘The Great British Bake-Off’ and the show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.
She has been writing every since she was fairly young. The first story that she wrote as a girl was titled The Dreams of Isabella. The story about about a young girl who is able to go to magical places through her dreams. She kept on writing stories that were all about magical worlds throughout the entirety of her childhood, although Boyce has to admit that when it comes to writing books, she was much better at starting them than finishing them.
Despite Kristy always dreaming of becoming an author, it seemed like a fantasy out of one of her stories at times. She still kept up with it and continued writing while going through junior high school and high school, and then on to college. She also had an obsession with ballet, making scrapbooks, and playing with her cats. She did take a break from writing so that she could go after a PhD in social psychology. When she had a minute of free time, though, her mind would immediately go back to her stories.
Kristy started writing seriously in 2008, hoping to be published. Ever since then she has gone to different writing conferences and workshops that were located around the country. She is always looking out for a fairy, unicorn, or narwhal, and says that at heart, she’ll always be a teen girl.
Dungeons and Drama is the first book in the Gaming and Romance series by Kristy Boyce. If you love a good YA romance, be sure to check this story out. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to go ahead and play some games during romance– open up to the first page and let the game play begin!
Riley has always loved music, and she has some big dreams of making it to Broadway and becoming a director. It’s a good plan, and she has a lot of concrete steps that she plans to follow to make it happen. One important aspect of her plan is to bring back the spring musical at her high school– but then she makes a mistake that could set her back.
She takes her mom’s car out but doesn’t get permission to do so. As a result, she is both grounded and also given a punishment. She has to work after school and spend some hours tending her dad’s game shop. It’s not that she doesn’t like doing that, but the fact that it interferes with her plans.
Riley knows that she can’t give up precious time working, not when she has a musical to rescue. She decides to get someone to help her out. Nathan is a teen employee there and is kind of nerdy. But he can also benefit from her help. In trade for him covering her shifts, she’ll go out of her way to flirt with him publicly so he can make the gamer girl he has a crush on jealous. Maybe this will make her notice him at last.
This means spending some time with him, too. Riley had no idea that becoming part of Nathan’s Dungeons & Dragons game would be something that she actually enjoyed. It turns out that role playing is kind of fun. The more that she hangs out with Nathan, the more that she is starting to realize that flirting with him is getting easier and easier. Could this faux romance turn into something real? Will she be distracted from her grand plans? Read the first story in the Gaming and Romance series to find out!
Dating and Dragons is the second book in the Gaming and Romance series by Kristy Boyce. If you love romance and you love gaming, and you read the first book in the series and thought it was awesome (or even if you want to start here and continue the series from this point), check it out and see what you think.
Main character Quinn Norton is going to a new high school and basically has to start completely over. But a blank slate is not all that bad. She hopes that she can make some new friends by joining up with a D&D game. It seems like a great plan to meet some new people and take the awkwardness out of being in a new place but not knowing anyone.
Quinn has some good luck when she’s invited to join a group to play. The group also happens to include Logan Weber, the cute guy that she met on her first day. So that’s not all bad either. This D&D campaign is a bit different from others, though. This group live streams games and has rules against having your phone– and against dating other members of the group too.
Quinn wants to make friends so badly that she’s willing to agree to the rules. She’s a little bummed about Logan being off-limits, but doesn’t mind as much later when he starts being insufferable. They have tons of bickering and bantering in the game and outside of it. This leads Quinn to wonder whether he might actually be interested in her. Could it be possible that this is his way of showing her that he likes her? How will this turn out? Read the second book in Kristy Boyce’s series to go along for the ride.
