Linzi Day is an accomplished published author. She is most well known for writing the Midlife Recorder series, which was released in 2022.

She is the proud owner of Lucy, her dog. According to her dog, the author resides in Gretna Green and they walk around it together frequently. The dog says that she is awesome and is ‘an actual goddess’. Lucy also says that her owner is generous with the cuddles and the giving of chicken treats and doesn’t give her too many baths.

Midlife in Gretna Green is the first book in the Midlife Recorder series by Linzi Day. If you have been looking around for an original and entertaining fictional story to read, check this book out!

When it comes to life, you can always stand up for yourself at any point and learn how to do that. Often times it requires courage, but sometimes it’s just a case of timing and not being willing to put up with it anymore.

Niki McKnight has been bullied for her entire life. Not as a kid or growing up, but as an adult. The first person to bully her was her husband, and then it was her boss. Now she is a widow and she’s one bully down and needs to give her life a bit of a makeover.

The last thing that she thought would be that her Gran would leave her a wonderful new estate as well as a strange new job that is described as being a Recorder. She doesn’t know what that is, but it’s interesting and something outside of the standard for her, so it’s exciting.

Niki decides that she will go to Scotland to get her inheritance. Joining her will be Tilly, her Bichon Frise dog. They are looking forward to the trip, but they also have no idea what is going to be waiting for them.

When they get to Gretna Green, they meet all types of people and encounter all types of things. This includes a cat that can talk, a house that is sentient, a Celtic god, a sketchy lawyer, and a Fae king. Niki had a hard time standing up to her husband when he was alive, and also had a difficult time finding her voice when it came to her boss. Will she be able to find the inner strength to keep the royalty of the Pict, Fae and Vikings in line?

Niki might just be able to pull this off, especially with some assistance from her family with their psychic gift but also some magic. Can she do it or will she fall short? Find out by reading the first book in the Midlife Recorder series and go on the adventure along with Niki and Tilly!

Painting the Blues in Gretna Green is the second book in the Midlife Recorder series by Linzi Day. If you thought that the first book in this series was fun, check out the sequel in this series and keep up with more of Niki’s shenanigans!

Niki is finding that her powers are growing even bigger, and now she has a low tolerance. She’s in her second week working in her new position as the Gretna Green Recorder. It’s been so tough and demanding that it has made the first week look like a walk in the park.

Part of everything is the fact that she is just so busy. Niki has a long list of things to get done, and every task is totally different. She has to fix an injustice that has existed for a thousand years that may end up threatening the future of the Pictish royal family as well as their realm. She also has to test out her Knight Adjutant candidates and then figure out what to do when she discovers that one of those candidates is the same guy that she was crushing on at twelve years old.

What’s not on her list? Feeding the cat, which doesn’t appear to be hungry. Also preventing a bloodbath is not on her list, because she’s hoping to not be in the situation at all to have to do anything. Meanwhile, Niki is just trying to acclimate and get used to being the new Recorder in Scotland’s Gretna Gateway.

Joining her is the cast of the Celtic, Fae, and animal characters, as well as some new ones that are Pict. She is the one Recorder. She has not only magic but psychic powers, a cat goddess, and the power bestowed upon her by endless amounts of coffee. She’s doing her best to make her gran proud of her, letting everyone know that royalty may be a frequent thing in the seven realms but at the end of the day there is just one Recorder.

If you’ve been looking for a story that lifts you up and has elements of the cozy paranormal fantasy plot that you’ve always dreamed of, this is a great book for you! Find out whether Niki and her sentient Scottish house come out on top or whether being the Recorder is too much for her to handle, especially with her powers growing, by checking out the exciting second book in this series.
