Early and Personal Life

Olivia Little grew up in South-East London, raised by parents with Jamaican and Guyanese roots. She attended Blackheath High School before moving on to Newstead Wood School for Girls for her A-Levels. Even early on, her curiosity and drive set the foundation for her future work in writing and media.

Between school and university, she spent time in India with Restless Development, working on health and livelihoods projects. This experience broadened her perspective, adding depth to her understanding of different cultures and stories. Later, she studied Politics and Sociology at the University of Bristol, earning top honors upon graduating in 2016.

Her academic background and real-world experiences have shaped her approach to storytelling. They’ve given her a keen eye for social dynamics and human nature, which shines through in her writing. These influences, combined with her natural creativity, have helped her grow into the author and editor she is today.

Writing Career

Liv Little launched gal-dem during university, creating a platform for women and non-binary people of color to share their stories. The magazine grew into a print edition and hosted events, including a celebrated Friday Late session at London’s V&A Museum. After stepping down as CEO in 2020, she continued writing, with gal-dem closing in 2023.

In 2023, Little released her debut novel, Rosewater, praised for its heartfelt portrayal of queer love and friendship.
