Mary Elizabeth Summer is an American published author who goes by the pronouns she/her.
She says that she enjoys poking at dark places until the light comes out, which is likely why she feels that her characters are always glaring at her as well as applying adhesive bandages.
Mary Elizabeth is currently helping with the delinquency of minors by writing her own books that are about a teen con artist who solves mysteries by doing crime. She is married and lives in Portland, Oregon with her daughter, spouse, and a ton of pets.
She is a mom, an instructional designer, a champion of using the serial comma, and a pie junkie.
Trust Me, I’m Lying is the first book in the Trust Me series by Mary Elizabeth Summer. If you are looking for something new and light and fun to read, check this mystery series out!
You should never judge a crook by their cover. Julep Dupree is used to telling a lot of lies, so much that it’s become second nature. She lives in Chicago and attends the fancy St. Agatha High as a sophomore. She is a master of disguise and a con artist.
Her father is an old-school grifter who always liked betting on the ponies and intentionally sent his daughter there so she could learn to mingle with those who are considered ‘upper crust’. She has to obtain extra spending money somehow and does so by running small scams for her classmates while avoiding the dean of students and doing her best to maintain an A average while she’s at it.
One day Julep comes home to an apartment that has been ransacked and her father completely disappeared without any notice. Julep had been planning to get an all the way paid trip to Yale, but now it is all quickly falling apart.
Julep does what she can to try and track her father down, getting help from Tyler Richland, a classmate, as well as Sam her friend the hacker. She does her best to try and track down a trail of clues that will take her through to random stalkers, hit attempts, family secrets, as well as the threat of impending foster care.
Julep has so much at stake and knows that she is in way over her head. But that’s not the things that is going to keep her away from using every grift there is to try and save her dad, and all before his mark finds her. Can she do it or is she too young to ever have any hope of being successful? Read this book to find out!
Trust Me, I’m Trouble is the second book in the Trust Me series by Mary Elizabeth Summer. If you liked the first book in this series, keep things going by reading this sequel and seeing what you think.
When it comes to staying out of trouble, it seems like something that is entirely out of the realm of possibility for Julep Dupree. She’s done her best to stay in school and has managed to this point to not get kicked out of St. Agatha’s. This is all despite the fact that everyone knows that she is the one responsible for taking down a mob boss– something that got the Prince Charming golden boy of the school Tyler killed as a result.
Being able to run cons helps keep her from overthinking, but while she’s busy doing that as a buffer for her guilty conscience, Julep is starting to become aware that someone out there would like for her to pay for those mistakes, and with her life.
Julep works against her better judgment to take on a shady case where she has to get into a secretive organization that might be connected to her mother and the person known as the blue fair.
This time, her loyal friend Sam is not there to stop her. Then her confidante Dani is also kind of an issue because she’s a 19 year old mob enforcer who can’t exactly be relied on for being the moral compass.
However, there is not always a lot of time to worry about what’s wrong or right or to help your heart when it’s failing when there is a contract that is on your head. Julep’s going to have to figure out what’s going on fast if she doesn’t want to end up in a precarious position. This time it could be her funeral.
Sorting through hidden identities, lies, secrets, murders, hit men and more, can Julep make it through this unscathed? Or will she find that she is not so lucky without her friends by her side? Read this book from Mary Elizabeth Summer to find out!
