Melissa Gilbert is a published author. Many readers may already be familiar with her as the character Laura Ingalls, the girl that she portrayed on the popular television show Little House on the Prairie.
After appearing on the show, Gilbert continued to act and appeared in a variety of movies on Lifetime. She served for two terms as the President of the Screen Actors Guild. She has also currently served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition. There she has worked with chronically and terminally ill children to give them comfort and care.
Today Melissa lives in Los Angeles. She is married and shares her life with her husband, Bruce Boxleitner.
Prairie Tale is a 2009 memoir from Melissa Gilbert. If you love a good true life story that is filled with details and are always eager to get your hands on a celebrity memoir, this is a fantastic one for you to check out!
This is a story full of fascination and heartbreak as well as a path of self-discovery where Melissa Gilbert tells how she got to where she is today. For those who were fans of the show, Melissa played a character who was living in a fantasy world. She had a father and family that she could count on, tons of friends and animals to play with, and more. Children watching all over America had dreams of living the idyllic life that was depicted on the show that the Ingalls had, and Melissa was no exception.
In a candid manner with plenty of humor thrown in, the actress brings the reader along on a journey from starting out as the bucktoothed Laura Ingalls to growing to become a starlet of Hollywood as well as a wife and mother.
During her hey day, she went to parties with the Brat Pack, went out with hunky heartthrobs such as Rob Lowe or Billy Idol, and also started up a pattern of addiction as well as codependency. Melissa also began to recognize that even though she had enjoyed an amazing career on television, she had also gained plenty of admiration and love from just about everyone– except herself.
With plenty of hard work and tenacity, as well as pursuing sobriety and being able to stand within a solid marriage, Melissa has continually accepted the various identities she has lived in along the way. She has also learned to feel, cry, laugh, and forgive in different and new ways.
There are women all over the world who may have thought that she had the perfect life living as Laura, but this memoir shows that Melissa’s real life was even more intriguing, fascinating, and inspirational. Check it out to witness all of the details and get a window into this amazing actress’s life!
Back to the Prairie: A Home Remade, A Life Rediscovered is a 2022 memoir and a sequel to Melissa Gilbert’s first memoir. The New York Times bestselling author is back again with another memoir that follows along in her Hollywood journey that takes her from the house in the Catskills all the way through the pandemic of COVID-19.
Melissa is, as mentioned above, widely known for the playing the role of Laura Ingalls Wilder as a child on Little House on the Prairie on NBC. She has also spent almost her entire life living in Hollywood.
From appearing to Dancing with the Stars to taking some time to work in politics, Melissa was always looking out for an upcoming project. She also happened to have no idea that the latest project that she took on would completely change her life.
Melissa writes about how she started falling back in love with nature when her husband introduced her to the wild area of rural Michigan. Then work requires that they return to New York, so the couple discovers a rustic cottage that they can call home located in the Catskill Mountains. However, rustic is even a nice term for the state that the house is in, and Melissa goes over all the work that they put in to make this cottage habitable.
When the pandemic comes about in the world, it pushes Melissa further out of the spotlight and also into the woods. She soon gives up her Botox treatments to pursue do it yourself projects, gives up power lunching to go gardening and raise chickens, and soon finds a new life in her own little Catskills house. Go on the journey and find out what’s gone on in Melissa’s life and continue on the adventure that she started with the publication of her first memoir by picking up a copy of Back to the Prairie!
