Michelle Birkby is a published author who has always had an affinity for crime stories.
The author read her first book featuring Sherlock Holmes when she was thirteen years old. She received a wonderful collection of all of the short stories and ever since then has found that she was hooked with the wonderful atmospheric world of crime and adventure.
She was re-reading The Empty House a few years ago when it suddenly appeared to her that a blurred figure from the background came into focus. It soon became clear to her than the character of Mrs. Hudson was much more than simply a housekeeper to 221b. She also had been fascinated by Mary Watson’s character. It seemed like a simple transition to give the women of Baker Street their own voice as well as adventures of their own. Thus it was that The House at Baker Street came out, the first book in the Mrs. Hudson and Mary Watson Investigations series, also known as the Baker Street Inquiries series.
The House at Baker Street is the first book in the Baker Street Inquiries series by Michelle Birkby. This book also goes by the alternate title of All Roads Lead to Whitechapel.
Sherlock Holmes is known for taking on many cases and solving them with ease, but this time he turns away the case of Laura Shirley. It is then that Mrs. Hudson (the landlady of Baker Street) and Mary Watson promise themselves that they will take on this investigation on their own.
Working out from the kitchen of Baker Street, these two women start their inquiries into the case. They also get some help from the Baker Street Irregulars as well as Irene Adler, the infamous woman. A trail of clues ends up taking them to the darkest corners of Whitechapel, a place where it is rumored that the Ripper is still operating.
There the women find out that Laura Shirley is not the only lady that is at risk. It quickly becomes obvious that the lives of the other women are also in danger and they are going to have to work more quickly than they even thought if they want to make progress with this case and hopefully close it.
As all of them work together to try and figure out the pieces of a puzzle that seems to always get more complicated the more that they work on that, the investigation balloons out and becomes much larger than any of the ladies could have ever predicted that it would. Will Mrs. Hudson and Mary Watson be able to put their heads together to solve this case are are they about to find out that they are merely pawns in a game that is being run by someone who is much smarter than them and always one step ahead?
Now more than ever Mrs. Hudson and Mary Watson must come out of the shadows and step into the light to be in their power and solve this case. These intelligent women must embrace their fearless side and become more resourceful than they could have imagined to stop a killer in their tracks and make sure the area is safe for women once more. Can they manage it, or will they find that being Sherlock Holmes for the day is easier said than done? Read this book to find out!
The Women of Baker Street is the second book in the Baker Street Inquiries series by Michelle Birkby. This book also goes by the alternate title of No One Notices the Boys.
Sherlock and Watson come back from working their Hound of the Baskervilles case. As they do, Mrs. Hudson and Mary have to take on their own Hound located in Victorian London and its thick fog.
Mrs. Hudson gets ill and when she falls sick she is ushered into the private ward at St. Barts hospital. Maybe it is her overactive imagination, or the natural gift that she appears to have for getting to the bottom of secrets. But as she is in her bed, making her way slowly towards getting better, she discovers that she is surrounded by all of the patients who have some skeletons in their closets.
It might be her imagination, but it also appears that there are more deaths than usual that occur on this ward. On her first night, Mrs. Hudson thinks that she sees a murder. But the only thing that she is undecided about is whether she really saw this or it was just her mind playing tricks on her.
At the same time, Mary Watson has also heard that young boys are going missing all across the city of London. She believes that the whispers are true and is determined that she is going to personally find them so that they can be reunited with their families once more.
The two women have no way of knowing that their investigations are going to come together in unexpected ways. When something gruesome is found in Regent’s Park, the women are about to find that they are led on to a new and even scarier case. Will they be ready for what awaits them? Read this book from Michelle Birkby to find out!
