| Murder at the Moorings | (1934) | Description / Buy at Amazon |
Miles Burton was a published author of fiction. He has also gone by the pen names of John Rhode, Cecil Waye, and Cecil J.C. Street. He passed away December 8, 1965.
He was born in the United Kingdom in Gibraltar on May 3, 1884. His full name is Cecil John Charles Street and he is an OBE. He started out his career in the military, serving as an artillery officer in the British Army. As World War I progressed, he became a propagandist for MI7, holding the rank of major.
After the armistice, Miles would alternate between the cities of Dublin and London during the Irish War of Independence, working as an Information Officer for Dublin Castle and collaborating closely with Lionel Curtis. He would go on to make a living writing detective novels.
During the course of his career, Miles produced two different series of novels, each with many novels to it. This included his series using the pen name John Rhode that featured the character of the forensic scientist Dr. Priestly. He also wrote another one under the pen name of Miles Burton that featured the main character of the investigator Desmond Merrion.
Using his pen name Cecil Waye, he came out with four novels. The Dr. Priestley novels he wrote were some of the first after Sherlock Holmes to feature the scientific detection of crime. Then there is Desmond Marrion, an amateur detective who works alongside Inspector Arnold of the Scotland Yard to solve crimes.
The Paddington Mystery is the first book in the Dr. Priestley series by Miles Burton. If you have been looking for something unique to read that is a classic that has stood the test of time, then give this book a try!
This is a special release of the first book by Miles Burton, using his pen name of John Rhode. In this debut Dr. Priestley is introduced for the first time, a very smart detective who would end up appearing in over seventy crime novels during the Golden Age.
Harold Merefield comes home in the early hours of a winter morning having attended a festive party at the nightclub the Naxos. But when he gets back, he is surprised by a horrible discovery that he never would have expected. Laying on his bed is none other than a corpse.
There wasn’t anything that could show the identity of the dead man or the reason that he died. At the inquest, the jury was able to find a verdict that the man had died by natural causes. They may have been right, but what if they were not?
Harold wants to figure out this matter for himself and get to the bottom of things so he personally can be assured that it is all going well. He looks for the help of Professor Priestley, who uses his logical reasoning method to try and throw more light on what is proving to be a very interesting affair.
This classic is introduced by Tony Medawar, a crime writing historian and an expert. He takes a look at how the author has become one of the most popular British authors of the Golden Age as well as one of the most best-selling authors. Check this book out for yourself so that you can find out what happens and whether this matter can be solved and figured out once and for all!
Dr. Priestley’s Quest is the second book in the Dr. Priestley series by Miles Burton. If you read the first book in the series or are just a fan of mystery stories, be sure to check this book out!
This story first came out in 1926. Dr. Priestley is back once again in yet another mystery that needs solving. Perhaps the top achievement of Dr. Priestley’s career working as a criminologist was his masterly solution of the mystery that is related in this volume.
The curious problem presented by the case of the Heatherdale brothers was suited well for exercising his strange powers of logical reasoning. Starting off with the disclosure of Mr. Gerald Heatherdale, the narrative moves forward by a series of unusual events, ultimately coming to a conclusion that not many readers will be able to predict! Check out this mystery story for yourself to follow along and see how this story concludes.
