Qntm is a published British author who also goes by the name of Sam Hughes.

Born in 1983, he is known for his various works of fiction. These include the 2013 novel Ed, the 2018 novel Fine Structure, the 2018 novel Ra, as well as his 2021 work There Is No Antimemetics Division and his 2022 work Valuable Humans in Transit and Other Stories.

His pen name is spelled ‘qntm’, but it is pronounced ‘quantum’. He is not only an author of science fiction but also a British programmer. He has written short stories such as Lena, which is about the first digital snapshot of a human brain. He has also written novels, as referenced above, and has written for the SCP Foundation wiki.

His book There Is No Antimemetics Division is a combination of science fiction and cosmic horror. It started out as a series on the wiki before its UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired by Del Rey Books in 2024, the U.S. rights being acquired by Ballantine Books. He was also a contributor to SCP-055 along with user ‘CaptBellman’.

The author also created ‘Absurdle’ in 2022. It was a variant of the popular game Wordle and involved the word changing with every quest, while also being true to prior hints. It has been called the ‘Machiavellian version of Wordle’ by The Guardian, and Hughes has described it as an experiment to try and find the most difficult Wordle variant. He has compared it to another of his projects, Hatetris, a variant of the classic popular game Tetris.

Ra is a 2018 novel written by qntm. If you have been looking for a creative and unique book to read that is a great blend of the genres of fantasy and science fiction, this is one story that you won’t want to pass up.

When it comes to magic, despite what you may have heard, it is real. It was discovered in the seventies, and now that is has been found, it is now a real and legitimate field of engineering. Now there is magic not only in the areas of heavy industry but in your home, too.

It’s the thing that has come next, now that they have discovered electricity. Now Laura Ferno is a student mage, and she is someone who has made her designs for the future. Her mother passed away during her attempts to try and get to space using magic. Now her daughter wants to make that attempt and succeed where her mother failed.

Before she does that, though, she’s going to have to take a closer look at the whole thing and find out what went wrong and why. In the process, she just might find out more about who her mother really was. Along the way, she may also discover new facts about whether her mother is truly dead at all. Will Laura be successful or will her attempts only land her a similar fate to the one that her mother endured? Read this incredible book to find out!

There Is No Antimemetics Division is a 2020 novel by qntm. Sort of like The Matrix meets Live Die Repeat (otherwise known as Edge of Tomorrow, starring Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise), this national bestseller is sure to keep you turning the pages to get to the end in a work that takes science fiction to a new level. Once a popular online novel, the story has been re-imagined and expanded to create something truly unique that readers will absolutely love.

Especially if you’re a big science fiction fan, you are going to want to check out this book. The Washington Post heralded it, calling it ‘a story worthy of Lovecraft’. Then there is The Guardian, who called it a ‘mind-bendingly brilliant novel’ that pushes the idea about alien entities existing in our world but hidden and secret government departments that protect humanity ‘to the most terrifying extreme’.

In this fascinating original story, the author sets up an incredible premise. The human race is being attacked by ‘antimemes’, malevolent ideas that are capable of attacking not only identity and memory but the literal fabric of reality.

The scariest thing about the antimemes is that they actually surround us. Hiding in plain sight, they blend in with everything. And even if you saw them, it wouldn’t actually matter. There could be one hiding in the room with you now, and you could even be seeing it in real time. However, from this moment to the next second, you will end up forgetting that you saw it at all.

Even if you managed to put down a note to yourself, afterward, it would appear to you completely blank. These entities are dangerous in every single way. They can feed on the memories dearest to you and the things that make ‘you’ who you are. And the scariest part is while doing this, you will never even have any idea that something had changed.

The antimemes can turn you into a virtual ghost while you are still alive. They can even adjust things so drastically that you could be standing next to the person that you love most in the world and be yelling at the top of your lungs into their ear, and they would not even have a single idea that you were there at all.

These are predators of the most insidious sort, the type that are not obvious, the type that could only be conjured up by nightmares but are unfortunately real. The antimemes come ready wearing the ultimate camouflage. They are black holes for information that are actually alive, able to eat and consume even the memories that we have that they exist.

The trouble with it all is that they are not simply feeding on human beings– they are invading. But is it even possible to take on an enemy and fight them when you do not even know that you are at war? Is it possible to contain something that can barely be recorded or recalled effectively?

That’s what those at the Antimemetics Division aim to find out. Welcome on board– and no. This is not your first day here. Can humanity win the war, or was it lost long ago? Read this fascinating science fiction work from qntm to jump on a roller coaster ride that you won’t soon forget!
