Russell R. James is a published author.
He grew up on Long Island, New York. Growing up, he may have spent a little too much time watching scary movies such as Chiller, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, and Dark Shadows, even though his parents warned him against it. He also had a bookshelf that was full of books from authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King.
He attended Cornell University and then the University of Central Florida. He has flown helicopters with the United States Army and held a career as a technical writer. He now spins twisted tales that he advises are best read in the daytime with the lights on. These include the horror thrillers Dark Inspiration, Q Island, and The Playing Card Killer, among others such as Black Magic and Dark Vengeance.
Russell James is the founder of the Minnows Literary Group. He is also the author of such series as the Grant Coleman series, the Ranger Kathy West series, and the Q Island series. He has also written many different short stories as well as the compilations Out of Time and Tales From Beyond.
The author is married and resides in the sunny state of Florida along with his wife and two cats. His wife also reads her work, unfortunately sometimes rolling her eyes and telling him there is something wrong with him. If you want to read more of his short stories, you can drop by his personal website.
Q Island is the first book in the series by the same name written by Russell James. If you love a good science fiction story, check this novel out.
An ancient virus has risen to the surface and is about to strike again. This time it has appeared on Long Island, New York, and anyone that it gets into is turned instantly. They go from being your everyday normal people to having black veins and being infectious psychopathic killers.
All types of chaos and madness consistently rules. Desperate to get something accomplished, the military decides to quarantine the island. In the process, they trap a mother named Melanie Bailey there along with her autistic son, Aiden.
Aiden is somehow able to survive the infection. This means that he could also be the key to a cure. Or at least that is the possibility if they can just get him to the mainland. This is something that Melanie doesn’t know if she is going to be able to accomplish.
At the same time, gang leader Jimmy Wade is also somehow able to survive the process. But he may not have escaped its grip completely, because now in the process he has acquired a hunger for human flesh. Even worse for Melanie and Aiden, he for some reason believes that consuming Aiden is going to be able to make him all powerful.
Because he believes this, he and his gang go after hunting the boy. Now Melanie and Aiden must get out of the way of Wade and his closing in on them as well as the growing number of the infected and try to keep themselves safe. All of this they have to accomplish while trying to plan out an impossible escape from what is now called Q Island.
Return to Q Island is the second book in the Q Island series by Russell James. If you liked the first book in the series, check this one out too and see what you think!
The paleovirus has made its way through Long Island and through the process has turned the residents that it comes into contact with into psychotic killers. Meanwhile, the government has issued a quarantine that traps Patrick in Connecticut.
This means that he is separated from his mother and his sister, who is pregnant, who are now trapped on what everyone now calls Q Island. Patrick loses contact with his family and when this happens, he fears that the worst has happened.
The only chance that he has to get back is to sneak his way onto the island. He infiltrates the island posing as a guide for an illegal safari where the members hunt the infected. However, he arrives to find out that he is way more of a slave than even a guide. Worse than that, it turns out that the infected in isolation have become even more fierce.
It also turns out that he is running out of time. His sister Kim is heavily pregnant and has given birth to Charlotte in the middle of all of the living hell that the Q Island has become. Now she has a baby to protect from the infected.
Thus begins an earnest struggle to survive all of the attacks by the infected as well as betrayal from family and friends. Kim has always had a love for her daughter, and that gives her the strength to keep on fighting. However, if her brother doesn’t show up soon, Kim doesn’t know if she can keep on beating the odds time after time.
However, there appears that there is something special about Charlotte and the others that have been born under the dark cloud of contagion. Are children like her going to be the type of salvation that the islanders have been praying for? Or will they instead prove to be the final pieces in this puzzle of infected domination? Read this book to find out!
