Dragon’s Green is the first book in the Worldquake series of fictional novels by Scarlett Thomas. If you love a good fantasy story, be sure to check the debut in this series out!
Main character Effie Truelove believes in magic. She’s not the only one in her family to do so; her grandfather Griffin also believes in it. He just refuses to do any of it, and won’t teach Effie how to use it.
But after a strange incident leaves Griffin close to death, Effie is given a silver ring. She is also told that she has to look after her grandfather’s library of rare and powerful books. But when the books fall into the hands of Leonard Levar, the shady scholar, Effie is pushed into one of the most dangerous adventures of her life.
Now Effie has to discover her true powers along with her friends– nerdy Max, rugby obsessed Wolf, helpful Lexy, and unusual Raven– if they are going to get the books back. And Effie on her own is going to have to go to the Otherworld where she will find the true meaning of the old book titled Dragon’s Green.
Will she come back triumphant or be overwhelmed by the forces working out there? Read this fascinating book to find out!
The Chosen Ones is the second novel in the Worldquake series by Scarlett Thomas. If you read the first book and really enjoyed it, check out the sequel and see what you think!
Effie has been expelled from magic class. Now she cannot even get back to the Otherworld, the place she loves most and where she feels like she can belong. She might be able to fix it all if she can just find a copy of The Chosen Ones by Laurel Wilde to give her father.
The only issue with this is that there are suddenly zero copies of the book anywhere. This is because the wealthiest man in the world, Albion Freake, is paying for them to be destroyed so that he can be the owner of a single volume limited edition that is being made for him specially.
Luckily, she has friends. Raven’s intuition tells her that there’s something suspicious about the maker of the limited edition’s plan, but could not say what it is. Maximilian has also gone missing deep in Napoleonic Europe.
Effie, Raven, Maximilian, Lexy, and Wolf are five friends from Dragon’s Green. But can they once more combine their powers and skills to help save the world from Diberi? Will they be able to get away from the children’s author who seems overly interested in Effie’s life too? Read this fantasy book to find out!
