Zach Weinersmith is an American published author and illustrator and is known for being a cartoonist.
He was born with the full name of Zachery Alexander Weiner. The cartoonist is recognized by many for authoring the web comic Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, or SMBC for short. He has also penned two other different web comics. These include Captain Stupendous with Chris Jones and Snowflakes, which was co-written with James Ashby and was illustrated by Chris Jones.
Weinersmith is also a founder of SMBC Theater, a sketch comedy group. It was established by Zach as well as James Ashby and Marty Weiner in 2009. He has been writing comics and drawing them ever since he was in high school. The first time that he published on the Internet was in the late 1990s. Early comics by Zach typically enjoyed three panels or more. After 2002, he decided to change things up and switched over to drawing comics that were mostly one panel.
In an interview in 2009, Zach stated that he was happy that he chose to draw one panel comics. He felt that web comics with three panels had become a cliché of the genre at that time and that when it came to one panel comics online, there were almost no decent ones. More recently, he has drawn a combination of comics for SMBC which were in single and multi panel format.
In 2006, his web comic was recognized. In 2007 he received the Web Cartoonists’ Choice Award for Outstanding Single Panel Comic. He had also received nominations for it in 2003 as well as 2008. The SMBC comic is a geek comic at heart, according to Zach. Despite this, it addresses a lot of different topics. These include economics, politics, science, religion, philosophy, love, relationships, and more. As can be seen by the different range of blogs it was featured on, it was appealing to a lot of different groups.
The comic did very well and at its height had around 250,000 readers on a daily basis. It was able to deliver over 300,000,000 comics in 2010. Online it is one of the fastest growing comics, having brought its readership to nearly six times its original amount from 2008. The comics have been part of many different blogs that are important and relevant. These include BoingBoing, Glamour, The Economist, Blastr, Bad Astronomy, Joystiq, Blues News, Washington Post, Freakonomics, and others.
The author has a degree in literature and nearly half of a degree in physics. Zach says that he likes to read about logic, history, math, fiction, science, and philosophy. Some of his hobbies include dinosaur riding, space travel, and thinking wishfully, also known as wishful thinking. He is married and resides in southern California with his wife, who he describes as being beautiful and brilliant. He releases his SMBC comics under the names ‘Zach Weiner’ and ‘Zach Weinersmith’.
Bea Wolf is a 2023 illustrated book written by Zach Weinersmith and illustrated by Boulet. If you have been looking for a graphic novel that is aimed at middle school aged students and haven’t found a lot that are age appropriate, you are going to be pumped that you have found this GN, which is a modern retelling of Beowulf.
This is a story that revolves around a group of kids who are always up to no good and are making trouble. They have to defend their tree house from an adult who hates fun and is able to instantly transform children from being young into being grown-ups. Somewhere out there are warriors who can answer the clarion call of candy, though!
Standing someplace in a generic suburb is Treeheart. This is a sanctuary that has been made up by kids. It is a place where generations of youngsters have spent their young days being happy, spilling soda, and staving off adulthood, which is hovering over them.
One day these warriors find that the fun that they are having has been halted thanks to Grindle, their neighbor. The nefarious man apparently can no longer deal with the sounds of mirth and joy that are coming out and going further into his adult life, which is devoid of joy and happiness.
As the guardian of gloom decides to lay siege to Treeheart, lots of kids suddenly discover that they have been transformed. Instead of being kids still, they have changed over into teens with pimples and adults who are completely sullen. Then there are the survivors, who are looking out for a savior. They are crying out for a warrior who has a will so strong that it cannot be broken and whose hunger for mischief is without limit. They are calling for Bea Wolf. Will she answer? Read this graphic novel to find out all that happens!
A City on Mars: Can We Settle Space, Should We Settle Space, and Have We Really Thought This Through? is a 2023 book by Zach and Kelly Weinersmith. If you have always been intrigued by the thought of what humanity would do on a different planet or love everything having to do with space, this is a great book for you.
Earth is not doing well, or there is always the prospect of thinking about a back up plan should things deteriorate on this planet. The idea of starting life up again somewhere far away, without war, climate change, or social media is calling. Settling all of the stars seems like it could be possible for humanity, but is it?
The authors have set out to write an essential guide to the future of space settlements. After having researched things for years, they aren’t sure it’s a great idea. Space business and technologies are quickly progressing. However, humanity still doesn’t have the information that it needs in order to have children in space, to build their space farms, and come up with created space nations in a way that keeps there from being more conflict back home.
This book looks into this dream, and whether it could become a nightmare. They answer many different questions about space, such as whether we can procreate there, what space war would look like, why astronauts enjoy taco sauce so much, and more.
With expertise, humor, and art, Zach Weinersmith and Kelly Weinersmith look into the greatest questions humanity may ever ask of itself, which is how to become people who are multi-planetary. Check out this book to find out more in depth information on this topic!
