Some of her popular pseudonyms include Gina Wilkins, Gina Ferris, and Gina Ferris Vaughan. Author Wilkins is believed to have written more than 85 romance books in her writing career. Wilkins was born on December 20, 1954, as Gina Ferris Vaughan, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her father, Vernon Vaughan, was an electrician, while her mother, Beth Vaughan, was an executive secretary. Author Wilkins married a man John Wilkins in the year 1972, who works as a wood turner. The couple is blessed with 3 beautiful children. Author Wilkins earned a degree in journalism from the Arkansas State Univeristy after which she started working in the field of human resources and advertising. Following several stints in working in other fields, author Wilkins decided to try her hand at writing romance novels. Eventually, she sold her first novel to Harlequin in 1987. This marked the beginning of what went on to become a full time career for Wilkins. Since the publication of her debut, she has penned over 85 books for numerous Silhouette and Harlequin category romance lines. The early Silhouette novels written by her bear her pen names as she used to write them under her pseudonyms. It was only later in her career that author Wilkins decided to drop all her pseudonyms in favor of her original name. Most of the books that author Wilkins has written so far have been translated into more than 20 languages all over the world and they appear in over a hundred countries. Author Wilkins has won the Reviewers’ Choice Award from Romantic Times in 2003 in the category of the Best Special Edition of Silhouette for her novel titled Make-Believe Mistletoe. In 1999, author Wilkins entered in a lawsuit against the BET Publishing company as she sued it for plagiarism. A fan of author Wilkins, who used to work as a librarian, once noticed that a new book, When Love Calls, matched her 1991 book Hotline quite closely. When she brought this case to the notice of author Wilkins, she purchased a copy and examined it thoroughly. It was later found by her that more than 100 pages of the book were directly taken from her original book in part or in whole. The case reached a settlement outside the court in which the BET publishing agreed to call back all the printed copies of the plagiarized book from the booksellers and also agreed not to publish the book in the future. However, neither the author of that book, nor the publisher offered any apology to author Wilkins for their plagiarism. Author Wilkins is now a proud member of the RWA and the Novelists, Inc. She is often called as a guest speaker in schools for speaking on the topics of motivation, goal-setting, and literacy. Wilkins says that she had developed an interest in imagining and writing stories from the time she was very small. She used to scribble in spiral notebooks and write about whatever stories came to her mind at that time. However, she used to feel very shy to share her stories with others. The fact that she was an avid reader of romance stories also helped her developed her writing skills. As a child and an upcoming author, Wilkins loved to read almost all types of books, including adventures, science fiction, romances, thrillers, classics, etc. Wilkins considers herself lucky that she got blessed with a caring and supporting family, and a career that she loves very much.
