Jack Patterson is a prolific author from America, who is popular for writing suspense, thriller, and mystery books. He has won several awards for his successful novels over the course of his writing career. Author Patterson is particularly famous for writing the Cal Murphy series and the Brady Hawk series. Patterson was raised in the family of military personnels. While growing up, he spent some of his former years on English baron’s estate. He says that it was while living on this estate that he developed a passion for literature as well as a liking for football. After returning to the US, author Patterson began working in the field of journalism. He won several writing awards during his journalism career. Author Patterson has written many articles for several prestigious American newspapers such as The NY Times. After a few years of working as a journalist, he left the field to focus on his next career of writing books on a full time basis. He was born in Mesa, Arizona, United States, and became interested in writing from a very young age. Patterson says that he received a lot of influence from the popular works of authors such as Harper Lee, Brad Meltzer, Joh Grisham, Matthew Pearl, and Lee Child. It was his English teacher who motivated him to write articles after she was impressed by his writing in the first grade.

While living in South Carolina during his teenage years, Patterson’s father used to tell him that he could watch sports if he wants, but on the condition that he will have to write about it later. Patterson’s father was even willing to pay him for watching sports with the intention that he would pay attention to the details and then help himself in polishing his writing skills. This benefitted author Patterson a lot as he got a writing job in a daily newspaper in his town by the time he reached the age of 16. He had also started writing a column on the players of Major League Baseball from his area. Patterson even covered the first riot of his career during a sporting event. Later, author Patterson went on to complete his graduation from a leading journalism school in the country. Following this, he was employed in South Georgia on the post of a sports editor. This job allowed him to get the first hand experience of the high school sports passion in the rural America. Patterson realized that there was a whole new world of sports, that he thought he knew, but actually didn’t. Author Patterson even received the chance to cover some of the major sports events like the World Series, the Final Four, the Olympics, and the Super Bowl. He was thrilled with all these opportunities. However, nothing seemed as thrilling to author Patterson as uncovering the realities in the investigative assignments. His story about the NCAA violation by a football and the subsequent investigation about the suicide of the violating coach won him a national award. A few other similar instances made Patterson realize that the world of sports was also a fantastic setup of drama. After years of writing nonfiction as well as ghostwriting for several others, Patterson decided to start writing fiction. He has said that it was something that he wanted to for a long time, but really found any time. As for his writing is concerned, Patterson does not intend to reach the heights a bestselling author, but only wishes to tell a nice story that is appreciated by the readers.

Cal Murphy visits Millesville along with his wife at the request of a common friend to help find out some truths. He gets the attention of the powerful people of the town and quickly realizes that the law enforcement here is corrupt. Soon, Kelly and Cal Murphy find themselves fighting for their livelihood and their lives, while pursuing the truth and justice.

The primary characters of this novel include Kelvin Jameson, Kelly Murphy, Cal Murphy, etc. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that Kelvin Jameson is a star player in the pro basketball league. It appears that he has everything in life, starting from good looks, nice public image, and a stable family. At least, this is what others think about him from the outside. Later, after winning a game, in which Kelvin Jameson scored the winning shot, Kelvin is discovered dead in the room of his hotel. Immediately after this discovery, the truths about him begin to leak out. Soon, Cal and Kelly get engaged in the race of breaking the story. They know that they must be able to distinguish fiction from fact in order to find the whole truth about Kelvin’s death. Also, Cal Murphy has a certain deadline to meet, or else he might end up losing his reporting job. On the other hand, the pursuit of truth is quite dangerous because Cal will have to deal with a deadly killer. And if he is not careful enough, Cal might become the next target of the killer. This book was highly appreciated by the readers and critics from all around the world. Author Patterson’s unique style of writing was very much appreciated by one and all. He received numerous praise and was motivated to continue writing many more exciting novels in the future.
