His book Home Game, authored along with fellow writer Ken Dryden, sold a number of copies and became a best seller. So did follow up books on hockey including Road Games, The 7 A.M. Practice, and Wayne Gretzky’s Ghost, which included stories from his own experiences with the sport.

The author would later transition from nonfiction books to fiction. His stand alone novels include the 1983 story “The Last Season” and 2002’s “Canoe Lake”. CBC aired a film based on The Last Season in 1986.

Roy MacGregor is the author of the fictional Screech Owls series. This fictional series of novels kicked off in 1995 with the release of the debut sports mystery story, Mystery at Lake Placid. There was a sequel and another book until now there are well over two dozen stories in this fun series! If you love hockey or sports, check them out for yourself.

Mystery at Lake Placid is the light and fun debut in MacGregor’s Screech Owl series! If you love hockey or just a fun read, check this one out. It’s a story that readers of all ages can enjoy.

The main character in this story is named Travis Lindsay. He loves playing on his local hockey team, the Screech Owls. The best part of it all is that he gets to spend a lot of time with his friends. This includes Nish, his very best friend.

They’re all Screech Owls and now they’re all excited because they’re going to play in an international youth hockey tournament in New York. While on their way in the van, the excitement is beginning to build. The closer that they get to Lake Placid, the hockey players are in a great mood. Mr. Dillinger keeps them all entertained, and the trainer is good at putting on antics.

They’re all pumped up too because they’re going to be in a large arena and putting themselves to the test on a regulation Olympic rink. They also know that there are going to be hockey scouts sitting, watching for talent and keeping an eye on teams and star players.

The team is in such a great mood– how could anything rain on their parade? They’ve barely gotten started and arrived in New York, however, before something goes wrong. For instance, Sarah’s their talented center player. But when she doesn’t get the sleep that she needs, she plays worse than usual. The team is shocked when Travis is knocked down right in the middle of the street.

The team is taking knocks left and right in what appears to be a string of bad luck that will never end. Then things go from bad to sinister when the Owls discover that someone has been messing with the equipment. They think that someone might be attempting to try and get to the team through sabotage so that they won’t play as well.

The only thing is, they have no idea who would want to do that. Could someone be out to get the Owls with their own secret form of sabotage, or is there more than one person trying to mess with them? Travis and his teammates must work to try and keep things from getting out of control before the tournament’s deciding game arrives.

Can they figure out who’s behind this? Or is the team in for more tricks and not treats? They’ve never wanted to just play in a tournament and win more. But will their enemies get the last say? Pick up the first book in this hockey mystery and find out!

The second book in the Screen Owls series builds upon the first. Check out “The Night They Stole the Stanley Cup” to continue all of the action!

The team already had to deal with their fair share of problems back in the day. When someone’s thinking about stealing a famous hockey trophy, the Owls may be the only thing standing in the way of thieves and the famed Cup.

Now Travis is back along with his best friend and the other players. They’re in Toronto, having come there for a huge hockey tournament. All they want to do is win by showing their stuff. Instead, they’re in for a bumpy ride.

Nish starts it off by falling and getting an injury. The sprained ankle from the CN Tower fall on the stairs means that he’s going to be probably out of the game. Then some people are accused of shoplifting from the Owls and a hall of fame tour leads to Travis overhearing a plan.

Two men are clearly intending to take the Stanley Cup and get a huge ransom for it. The Owls are trying to do what they can to rescue the trophy– can they do it? Will they win their tournament game? Read this book to find out!
