Author Jessica Fletcher was born Jessica Beatrice MacGill and writes as J.B. Fletcher, and is a fictional character from “Murder, She Wrote”. started her writing career working on an ancient Royal typewriter, a Magic Margin that had glass keys. As her career progressed, though, she bought an Intel 80386 class computer that ran Windows 3.1, which was a popular operating system at the time. Jessica is an author who also plays amateur sleuth.

Within the last five minutes of each episode, she would solve the case. The only exceptions to this include if the episode was a two parter.

The two sheriffs of Cabot Cove were either resigned to or used to having her meddle in their cases. Many police officers and detectives wanted her nowhere close to their scenes. That ended when her accurate deductions convinced them to listen to what she had to say. There were some who were fans of her work and gave her free rein. Over time, she would make friends in many of the police departments all over America, as well as one British police officer that was attached to Scotland Yard.

To keep with the spirit of the television series, a series of official and original novels have been released, published by the New American Library. The books published outside of the show were written by ghost authors like James Anderson, Donald Bain, and Jon Land. Author credit is shared with the fictitious “Jessica Fletcher”.

The first novel of the series, called “Gin and Daggers”, was published in the year 1989. It featured many inaccuracies to show, like Jessica driving a car, something she was unable to do since she never learned to drive. Because of the fans pointing these errors out, the book was revised and re-released in the year 2000 with a lot of these inaccuracies fixed.

“Manhattans and Murder” is the second novel in the “Murder, She Wrote” series, which was released in the year 1994. It all starts when a sidewalk Santa stares at Jessica with recognition and fear. Walter Morse is behind the beard, and he is a former drug smuggler and the most infamous citizen of Cabot Cove, Maine. Jessica has no clue how he could have ended up playing Saint Nick on a street corner, but she agrees to meet with him at two the next day.

She arrives with her camera, but Santa is dead quick, a rather unexpected murder in progress. As the police are oddly slow on their feet, and the dead guy’s wife strangely fast on the run, Jessica, in her no-nonsense ways, chooses to do just what she does best. Snoop around and, with grace, outwit the pros on either side of the law. Doing all she can to keep a killer from murdering again.

With each page, readers are able to see the show. With all of her brilliant cleverness, Jessica constructs an outstanding mystery. Jessica is also a delight that readers cannot get enough of. The book has a ton of action and fun packed into this adventure.

“Rum and Razors” is the third novel in the “Murder, She Wrote” series, which was released in the year 1995. Jessica is vacationing in St. Thomas when she finds the corpse of Walter Marschalk, a hotel owner. The island police believe it was a hot tempered former employee, but Jessica keeps a cool head while she finds the real serpent in Eden.

“Brandy and Bullets” is the fourth novel in the “Murder, She Wrote” series, which was released in the year 1995. Cabot Cove, Maine has a country luncheonette, but not a lot of high culture. Mystery writer Jessica Fletch is the only writer in residence. That being said, the renovation of the local Worrell mansion into an art colony could bring in all kinds of artistic folks to the town. Nobody, though, expected a creative killer to be one of them.

“Martinis and Mayhem” is the fifth novel in the “Murder, She Wrote” series, which was released in the year 1995. She cannot wait to ride on the cable cars, have drinks and dinner on Fisherman’s Wharf, and a romantic rendezvous with George Sutherland, a Scottish policeman. She does not know that she will also be solving a murder.

“A Deadly Judgment” is the sixth novel in the “Murder, She Wrote” series, which was released in the year 1996. Jessica is headed to Boston to help out her eccentric attorney friend, named Malcolm McLoon, and defend a tycoon that stands accused of fratricide. Her sleuthing abilities are going to come in handy as the two old acquaintances delve into the case with characteristic vigor. Still, Jessica anticipates there will be enough time to take in all of the charming sights of New England’s historic capital.

The defendant’s girlfriend, and his alibi, is found deceased in her apartment, the case takes another murderous turn for the worse. Could somebody be trying to ensure the accused is convicted? Jessica has got her suspicions, and quickly, as jurors become victims of deadly accidents, there is more to ponder. Jessica, who only has her gut feelings working for her, has to outwit the tight prosecutor who is determined to get a guilty verdict. She has to find the actual culprit and do it before the killer can find her.
