Kevin Wilson
Author Kevin Wilson is from Sewanee, Tennessee. He is a graduate of the University of Florida’s MFA program and teaches writing.

Kevin’s work has appeared in Tin House, Ploughsares, and Cincinnati Review, as well as other places. It has also appeared in four volumes as part of the New Stories from the South: The Years Best anthology and The PEN/O. Henry Prize Stories 2012. Kevin has gotten fellowships from the KHN Center for the Arts, the MacDowell Colony, and Yaddo.

Since Kevin’s wife is a writer too, (poet Leigh Ann Couch) a couple times a year, one of them will stay home with their two kids for ten days or so while the other one will rent a cabin or is doing a residency.

While Kevin goes on a writing sojourn, he goes off on mind-clearing strolls. That was not possible while he wrote “Nothing to See Here”, a novel that he wound up writing in just ten days. The cottage he stayed in was surrounded by a lot of trailers with Beware of Dog signs up.

He went out for a walk and immediately hit the highway. He believes that had he rented a house out in the woods that would allow him to allow him to go on long, long walks, he would not have penned the novel in only ten days.

Kevin spends a bunch of time inside of his head before he begins writing. The book was alive inside of his mind and knew what he wanted it to be.

Since he was a kid, he has been obsessed with spontaneous human combustion. There were times he would be afraid that he could burst into flames, but then there were times he actually wanted to be a human torch. Kevin was interested in manifesting my anxiety physically. What he always tries to figure out with his writing is, how to create a tale where there are people who survive some dark things? That being said, he doesn’t ever want anybody to get hurt.

Kevin’s collection “Tunneling to the Center of the Earth” received a Shirley Jackson Award, and an Alex Award from the American Library Association.

His debut novel, called “The Perfect Family”, was released in the year 2011. Kevin’s work is literary fiction.

“The Family Fang” is the first stand alone novel and was released in the year 2011. Buster and Annie Fang have spent the majority of their adult lives attempting to distance themselves from Caleb and Camille, their famous artist parents. A bad economy and some bad personal choices converge, the siblings have got no place to go but to their family home.

The siblings are reunited under the same roof for the very first time in more than a decade and they are surrounded by souvenirs from their unusual upbringing. The entire time, Buster and Annie are required to confront not just their creatively ambitious parents, but the confusion and chaos from their childhood.

“Perfect Little World” is the second stand alone novel and was released in the year 2017. Isabelle Poole meets Dr. Preston Grind for the first time, and she is close to being out of options. She is pregnant with her art teacher’s baby, and has just recently graduated from high school. Her dad is an alcoholic and her mom is dead. The art teacher is much too much of a head case to help her raise the kid. Izzy knows she will be a good mom, but with no money and without prospects, she is left searching.

She accepts Dr. Grind’s offer of a space in The Infinite Family Project. Housed inside of a spacious compound out in Tennessee, she joins up with some other couples, nine in total, all of whom have kids the same age as her newborn son, all raising their kids as a single extended family.

This attempt at an utopian ideal, which was bankrolled by an eccentric billionaire, starts off rather promising. Izzy enjoys reading to the kids, and showing them how to cook. Quickly, the gentle balance among all of the families gets upset, and things slowly start to disintegrate. There are unspoken resentments between some of the couples start to fester, Izzy’s feelings for Dr. Grind (who looks to expunge a painful childhood), and the funding for the project becomes strained. It all makes Izzy start to question her participation in this odd experiment to begin with.

“Nothing to See Here” is the third stand alone novel and was released in the year 2019. A woman finds meaning in her life after she starts caring for two kids with disturbing and remarkable abilities.

Madison and Lillian made for unlikely roommates yet inseparable buddies while at their elite boarding school. Lillian was forced to leave the school unexpectedly after a scandal, and they have rarely spoken to one another since then. Up until now, as Lillian receives a letter from Madison, who pleads for her help.

Madison’s twin stepkids are about to move in with her family, and she would like Lillian to be the kids’ caretaker. There is a catch, however, the twins will spontaneously combust when agitated, with flames igniting from their skin in a beautiful but still startling way. Lillian is convinced that Madison is just pulling her leg, but she finds out that it is actually the truth.

Thinking about her dead-end life that waits for her back home, the life that has only disappointed her, Lillian thinks she doesn’t have much to lose at this point. Over the course of a demanding and rather humid summer, the twins and Lillian figure out how to trust one another, as well as manage to keep cool, while they stay out of the way of Madison’s politician husband.

Surprised by her ingenuity, but not use to the intense feelings she has of protectiveness she has for both kids, she ultimately starts accepting that she needs these odd kids just as much as they need her. Both fiercely and urgently. Could this really be the beginning of the wonderful life that she had always hoped she would have?
