Peter Telep is an award-winning and bestselling author who has written more than fifty works of fiction. The author was born in Yonkers but his family moved to Long Island, New York, which is where he spent much of his childhood. He then went to Southampton College but dropped out as a senior. He moved to Los Angeles and for several years has a lot of success working on television. Telep then enrolled at the University of Central Florida and finally completed his undergraduate and graduate studies. His works have spanned the genres and include fantasy, science fiction, adventure/military action, and medical drama as well as video game tie-ins, television and film. He has produced live animation and action and is currently a teacher of scriptwriting, creative writing, and fiction writing at the University of Central Florida. When he is not writing or teaching fiction, you can find him fishing and since he is also a certified cycling instructor, he loves to cycle too.
His first series “Squire” that he debuted with the novel “Squire” in 1995 is based on Arthurian themes. With the success of the first three novels “Squire,” “Squire’s Blood,” and “Squire’s Honor,” he was asked to produce several media tie in books related to video games, televisions shows, and genre film. Post the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, one of his editors suggested he write military fiction and for several years he was very successful in the genre. He has several series in the space that include the “Descent,” “Night Angel 9,” “Scott St. Andrew” as Ben Weaver, “Force 5 Recon” as P W Storm, “Armored Corps” as Pete Callahan, “Mercenaries” as P W Storm, “Special Forces Afghanistan,” “Splinter Cell: Blacklist” and “Secret Corps” series. His success led to him being asked to adapt many of the video games by Tom Clancy into novels. This also led to working with Clancy in the novel “Against All Enemies” published in 2011. But through all of it, he always identified himself as a fanboy, a nerd and geek with a love for fantastic stories. As for his different pen names, it was because he was working with many competing publishers hence the need to differentiate himself. Moreover, he was a prolific author at the time and would write three or four novels every year and hence pen names were just a better marketing tactic that allowed him to sell more books.
Telep has asserted that he always was a huge science fiction fan right from childhood. He would go watch the blockbuster science fiction movies of the times such as the “Planet of the Apes,” “Logan’s Run,” “Rollerball,” and “Westworld” at the cinemas. On TV he used to watch “The Outer Limits,” “The Twilight Zone” and “Star Trek.” As a third-grader, he wrote a version of the “Planet of the Apes,” which his teacher so loved that he added it to the class bookshelf next to the real works. It was an important confidence booster as he was soon reading tons of classic science fiction novels and from the likes of Frank Herbert, Ray Bradbury, R.R. Martin, Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Arthur C. Clarke among many others. In college, his master’s thesis was inspired by the novel “Snowcrash” by Neal Stephenson, which he thought hilarious and sardonic. While he was reading all the novels and stories, he always had a pen and notebook and made journal entries on descriptions, clever lines or cool scenes he thought were fantastic. Later on, he tried to incorporate those same techniques and styles into his work. Nonetheless, while he draws a lot of inspiration from the classics, he also does a lot of research. Given his experiences and background with Clancy, research is part and parcel of his writing. Peter Telep has trained with the Navy SEALs, Force Recon Marines among other military branches. He has also applied that meticulousness in researching his science fiction by going into how technology might impact the culture and complexity of extraterrestrial civilizations.
Peter Telep’s “Descent” is set on a Lunar Outpost that is about to be destroyed by a techno cataclysm. It houses the most technologically advanced mining operation on the solar system and is now about to be annihilated. The biggest threat is the flying drones that have been hacked into and their programs corrupted. They have now turned on their masters spreading death and devastation via a hideous plague. The berserk drones are controlled by alien forces who have used them to announce their first act of war that spreads terror across the solar system. The moon is in danger of falling and once she falls, the Earth will follow soon after. The company in charge of the mining operation named the Post Terran Mining Corporation needs someone to lead a suicide mission. The man will need to go into the depths of the operation on the Lunar surface and deal with the core of the rebellion. A veteran Maine Flyer named Benjamin St. John who has nothing left to lose teams up with a beautiful woman who also happens to be his despised enemy and together, they head off to the moon. Their mission is to find a computer scientist that has been trapped in the labyrinth of the mine and St. John volunteers to go so that he can save humanity from utter destruction.
In “Stealing Thunder,” the second novel of the “Descent” series, the Post Terran Mining Corporation is facing one of its biggest threats yet. According to reports, there is a massive buildup of mining drones that have been infected with some alien virus heading for their operations. Intelligence estimates that the contaminated drones will arrive in the solar system within forty-eight hours. Reports suggest that an alien ship or command post is in charge of the mechanical invasion. Benjamin St. John works with a tough as titanium and sexy Collective Earth Defense pilot and together they have to find and destroy the stronghold of the enemy. But first things first, they need to deal with an unexpected attack by PTMC and CED mercenary forces and uncover a mystery. Meanwhile, they still have to deal with a double-crossing and blackmailing director who is determined to crush the attacking forces and while at it also put the CED, his bitter enemy out of commission. But his plan has a fatal since he needs the cooperation of ex-Marine Corps pilot Ben St. John. Ben wants to save the universe, get paid and in the process remove the director he hates from his position.
Peter Telep’s “Equinox” opens to a world exploding in chaos around Ben St John. Humanity is in peril and the ex-Marine knows it is all the fault of Samuel Dravis, the director of the Post Terran Mining Company his former employer. As the head of the most powerful company in the solar system and probably the entire galaxy, he had been responsible for the death of Ben’s wife. He had also made him a galactic renegade and in the process destroyed his future. But while Ben had been stripped of all allies, he had managed to draw to himself a few misfits and star wanderers. Dravis wants to control the inexhaustible wealth of the universe and in his quest has unleashed a new generation of viruses and weaponry. He has mastered an indefensible system of mind control and controls a powerful army of drones that would make him almost impossible to beat. But Ben St. John has nothing to lose and intends to go head to head with the man. From the invisible terrors in Sirius to the deadly mazes in the Red Acropolis Research Facility on Mars, Ben will go anywhere and deal with anything Dravis throws at him.
