Agatha Frost is an English cozy mystery author that is best known for her bestselling novels in the “Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery,” “Scarlet Cove Seaside Cozy Mystery,” and “Claire’s Candles Cozy Mystery” series. Frost is a lover of cozy mysteries, which she has read for as long as she can remember. As such, it is not surprising that she has become one of the most prolific authors of the genre. She made her debut in the genre with the publishing of “Pancakes and Cakes” in 2017 and now has more than twenty-five titles spread out across her series. She had said that she is a crime fiction fanatic and that her favorite pastime is to curl up with a cat and cup of tea and read a good murder mystery.

Frost has made a name for herself for writing well thought out mysteries that keep audiences engaged right from the first page to the last. Reading her novels, one feels as if they are there with the protagonists as they deal with the many challenges in their lives. As a veteran reader of cozy mysteries, she has mastered aspects of story flow and this is evident in her plots, which never become stale. Since Agatha Frost is also a reader of romances, her novels will typically have an element of romance with the “Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery” having a particularly intriguing love story between the lead protagonist and the detective that she works with to resolve murder mysteries. She is also an excellent writer of characters as she fleshes out her characters and rounds them out quite nicely. Julia, the most popular character in her flagship series looks a lot like a combination of Beresford and Tuppence, two of Agatha Christie’s characters she had read while growing up. Combining the two, she makes a character that mixes espionage skills with daring to make for interesting narratives. Agatha currently loves in a sleepy quaint village in England from where she writes her mysteries.

In Agatha Frost’s debut novel “Pancakes and Corpses,” the lead protagonist Julia South is back in Cotswold, after a heartbreak. Her husband had left her for a younger woman and she decided to go home to lick her wounds. She had always loved baking and now back home with nothing to do, she decides to pursue her dream by opening a café. She serves tea, coffee, mouth-watering cakes, and pancakes alongside village gossip. Her café is very well-liked by everyone except by Barker Brown her new neighbor and a nasty reviewer. It is not long before she realizes that she may know the person who penned the terrible review and decides that she has to confront them. But before she can do it, the body of Barner Brown her nemesis is discovered. Detective Inspector Brown is in charge of the case and suspects Julia or if not, Roxy her best friend that had been seen in a distressed and incoherent state before she went missing. Julia is worried about what may have happened to her best friend and thinks that since the detective inspector is new in the village, there is a probability that he may not understand how everything works. Julia knows all of her neighbors and has her ear on all the gossip in the small town and hence decides that she is best suited to resolve the murder mystery. She also has to resolve the mystery of someone who keeps on breaking into her shop and eating her cakes every night.

“Lemonade and Lies” by Agatha Frost is a thrilling mystery story. It opens to the whole village invited for a special but mysterious announcement at the home of Julia’s estranged father. Given that practically everyone in town attends the meeting, nobody expected that someone would be daring enough to commit murder at the tail end of the party. A man is pushed out of a window and since Julia has quite the reputation, she is called upon to help resolve the mystery. This is something she relishes and she jumps right in trying to get as much information as she can before the authorities and especially detective Brown starts erecting roadblocks. But she still needs to walk a tightrope given that her relationship with Brown is just beginning to flower and she would not want to ruin it. She is also worried about her young lodger who is acting strangely and tends to somnambulate. Julia wants to help Jessie the young girl but still wants to respect her space since she does not want to frighten her away. As for the murder, it is one of the most complicated, she has ever handled given that it happened on her father’s estate. Their relationship is not on a good footing and things could only get worse when it is suspected that some of her family may have had something to do with the murder mystery. But Julia has never been one to give up and she is going to do everything she can to find everything about the murder mystery.

Agatha Frost’s “Doughnuts and Deception” is another brilliant story that has Julia involved in another murder mystery. She had gone with her young lodger Jessie to visit a homeless sanctuary where her lodger had lived for a while. They are informed that there has been a spate of bizarre deaths in their community and no one can explain what is happening. The complication is that there are no signs or any clues that could tell her how the men had died. The police believe that these are drug-related deaths given that the men are homeless and hence they are not investigating the murders. Their investigations begin with speaking to the homeless at the home, all of who sweat that of the men who died, none had been taking drugs. She is even more determined to resolve the case when one of the men she had interviewed turned up murdered. After much convincing, she seeks the help of Barker her boyfriend though they must act quickly before the mysterious killer strikes again. It seems that Julia cannot stay out of danger as it seems to follow her wherever she goes.
