Jamie Thomson is a children’s fiction, young adult fantasy, and fantasy author who grew up in Brighton. He went to Brighton College, which is where he met Mark Smith with whom he was worked on several novels. He would later get a degree in government and politics from the University of Kent though he never pursued a career in his degree focus. Between 1981 and 1984, he worked for “White Dwarf” magazine as an assistant editor and also worked for “Warlock” magazine where he wrote a regular column. He was among the developers of “The Tower of Despair,” a computer game while he was working for Games Workshop. He published “Avenger,” the first novel of the popular “Way of the Tiger” series of novels with Mark Smith in 1985. This would become one of his most successful series of novels that have been published in Sweden, Japan, Italy, the USA, and France. Jamie now has more than 30 novels in the “Way of the Tiger,” “Falcon,” “Fabled Lands,” “Dark Lord,” “Tales of the Fabled Lands,” “Dark Lord,” “Starship Captain,” “Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks” alongside several non-fiction series. His software version of the “Gremlin Graphics” was also a bestselling title immediately after it was published.

Thomson is also an author of several choose your adventure novels and gamebooks. Alongside Dave Morris, he authored “Fabled Lands” and with Mark Smith, he wrote the very popular “Way of the Tiger” series. He is the author of the Games Workshop adventure novel “The Tower of Despair.” After a dozen years of working as an author, he got a job developing games for Eidos Interactive, the studio responsible for the development of the bestselling title “Tomb Raider.” Wanting more from his gaming ventures, he raised more than £1 million to found “Black Cactus” his game development venture. Under the company, he developed the well-received game “Warrior Kings” and “Warrior Kings: Battle” the sequel to his debut. Publishers canceled another sequel he had lined up for “Warrior Kings” and he decided to wind up the company and move in. In 2007, he set up “Fabled Lands LLP,” a company that specialized in intellectual property development after raising $250,000. The company made its own titles that would be developed as apps, novels, and iPhone comics.

In addition to coming up with several titles for Fabled Lands LLP, he also worked with Boxer Books and with Microsoft in the development of the game “Fable III.” He has also written a comedy-adventure series set in space in the “Dark Lord” series that won the 2012 Roald Dahl Funny Prize. In 2020, Thomson joined the “VulcanVerse,” a 3D decentralized MMO game that was developed on blockchain technology. Together with other authors, Thomson provides concept development, chapters, backstory, and lore for the game.

Jamie Thomson’s “Dark Lord: The Early Years” introduces the Dark Lord. At the open of the narrative, he crashes into a parking lot and is mistaken for Dirk Lloyd, a regular kid from around the block. He had been given the name since it is the best approximation the medics who have been treating him can make of his mumblings. The dark lord now known as Dirk is then forced to attend school and live with a foster family. The social and medical authorities believe that he is suffering from some trauma since he has been constantly saying that he originates from another dimension and that he has evil powers. Dirk takes it all in his stride telling his classmates about his powers with most of them believing he must be a lunatic. No one takes him seriously since his powers seem to be non-existent in the real world he lives in. For the most part, he becomes a form of entertainment for his classmates even as he does all in his power to go back to the dimension he calls home. He is a funny boy with ridiculous and hilarious antics that can sometimes enter the realm of disturbing. In the meantime, Dirk is getting stressed since he has tried to go back home through the ring and portal he had created. He had intended to use the portal and take along his friend Sooz but only succeeded in getting themselves in a lot of trouble for it.

“Dark Lord: School’s Out” by Jamie Thomson picks up from the end of the debut. Dirk Lloyd the supposed foster kid is a Dark Lord forced to live the life of a middle school boy exiled from home and trying to get back his powers. His attempt to use a portal to go back home had gone seriously wrong and Sooz his best friend is the one that had ended up in the Darklands. Dirk now needs to work with Christopher his foster brother to try to get her back to earth which is not easy to do. There are all manner of obstacles they have to get through including keeping ahead of the minions of a White Wizard who intend to get rid of him forever. Meanwhile, Sooz has won the Dark minions to her side since she had managed to get hold of his ring that she has put to good use. The minions assume that she is engaged to Dirk and this arouses their loyalty and devotion. She has been making changes that have overall improved the living conditions in the Darklands. But the White Wizard Hasdraban is not that easy to beat and takes Sooz captive. Dirk now has to risk everything to take back his land and get back Sooz. But will he turn into a true monster once he is back in the Darklands?

Jamie Thomson’s “Dark Lord: Eternal Detention” the final novel of the series still follows the life and times of the Dark Lord trapped in the body of Dirk Lloyd, the middle schoolboy. He is back in his usually subversive and brilliantly funny adventure in which the white wizard has been promoted to the headmaster at his school. Given all the power that the wizard now wields, he tries to kill Dirk but he managed to foil his plans just at the right moment. The three friends find a way to move between the dark lands and the Earth and they start visiting the dark lands every weekend. Dirk also makes friends with the White Wizard, which soon results in less tension and fighting in the dark lands.
