Pola Oloixarac
Pola Oloixarac was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 13, 1977 and is a translator and writer. She studied Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires.

Pola has published articles on technology and art in media such as Page 12, Black Label, The New York Times International, The Telegraph, Folha de Sao Paulo, Quimera Magazine, Alfa Magazine, What to Read, Brando, and America Economia. Pola is also a founding editor of The Buenos Aires Review bilingual journal that features contemporary literature in the Americas.

Her fiction work has appeared in places such as The White Review, Granta, n+1, and in one issue of Freeman’s where she talked about “The Future of New Writing. She published short stories in anthologies in Argentina and Switzerland.

Pola has also written the libretto for the opera “Hercules” in Mato Grosso, which premiered in New York City after it debuted first at Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colon.

In the year 2010, she participated in the International Writers Program at the University of Iowa thanks to a grant she got from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US State Department. That same year, she received the National Grant of Letters from the National Fund for the Arts of Argentina. She was also selected as being among the best narrators in Spanish by Granta Magazine, in the Best of Young Spanish Novelists.

“Savage Theories” was also nominated for the Best Translated Book Award, and in Argentina was a breakout bestseller. She received the 2021 Eccles Centre & Hay Festival Writer’s Award.

Pola’s debut novel, called “Savage Theories”, was released in the year 2008, and translated into English in the year 2017 and was published by Soho Press. Her novels have been translated into seven languages.

“Savage Theories” is the first stand alone novel and was released in the year 2008. Rosa Ostreech, a fake name for the novel’s self-conscious yet beautiful narrator, carries around a trilingual edition of Aristotle’s Metaphysics. She sleeps with a bourgeois former guerrilla, struggles with her thesis on culture and violence, and pursues her elderly professor with a highly charged mix of desperation and eroticism.

Elsewhere on campus Kamtchowsky and Pabst tour the underground scene of Buenos Aires, where they dabble in video games, ketamine, hacking, and group sex. In the year 1917 in Africa, Dutch anthropologist named Johan van Vliet starts working on a theory that explains human consciousness and civilization by reference to our early primate ancestors: animals spent thousands of years as prey while in the process of becoming human.

Pola delivers a novel that wryly explores philosophy and eroticism, violence and fear, sex and war. Its flawed and complex characters wrestle with visionary and impossible theories, looking for their place in our fragmented digital world. She has crafted a debut novel that is delicious in storytelling, ambitious in its scope, and is singular in composition.

“Dark Constellations” is the second stand alone novel and was released in the year 2015. Pola investigates humanity’s quest for control and knowledge, hurtling from the nineteenth century mania for scientific classification to the mass surveillance in present day and the next steps in human evolution.

Canary Islands in the year 1882. Caught up in the nineteenth century wave of scientific classification, Niklas Bruunis (plant biologist and explorer) researches Crissa pallida, a species that is supposed to have certain hallucinogenic qualities to it. These qualities are capable of eliminating the psychic limits between one human mind and somebody else’s.

Buenos Aires in the year 1983. Cassio, who was born to a black Brazilian engineer and a white Argentinian anthropologist, comes of age with the Internet. He demonstrates the personality and the skills that are going to make him one of the very first great Argentine hackers.

The year is 2024 in the southern Argentinian techno-hub of Bariloche. Piera, who is on the same research team as Cassio, is studying human DNA. When he Estromatoliton project finally comes to fruition, the Argentine government will finally have the ability to track every moment of its citizens without their consent or their knowledge, using censors which identify DNA from a distance.

“Mona” is the third stand alone novel and was released in the year 2019. Success for a writer of color proves to be a fresh hell for one young Latin American woman abroad.

A Peruvian writer that is based in California, named Mona, likes cigarettes and drugs, presents a sardonic and tough exterior. She discovers that she is something of an anthropological curiosity herself, a “woman writer of color” treasured within her university for the flourish of rarefied diversity that she brings. As a result, she pokes fun at American academic culture as well as its fixation on identity.

When she unexpectedly is nominated for “the most important literary award in Europe,” she sees this as an opportunity to flee from her spiral of erotic distractions and substance abuse. She trades in the temptations that California has to offer for a tiny and gray village located close to the Arctic, in Sweden. Now she is stuck in the company of her mostly male, and all jet lagged competitors. They are all arriving from places like Colombia, France, Japan, Armenia, and Iran.

Even though they are isolated, the writers all do what writers do: nurse their private resentments and envy, exchange compliments with each other, stab their rivals in the back, and hop in bed with each other. The whole time, Mona continues to stumble across the mysterious traces of some violence she is unable to explain.

While her adventures in Scandinavia play out, she discovers that she hasn’t so much fled from her demons as locked herself up surrounded by them out in the middle of nowhere. This in a novel that is a portrait of a woman that faces this hipster elite in which she both does not and does belong in. She is a survivor or both odd sexual encounters and patronization, she is a new sort of feminist. However her past will not stay put, and bizarre forces work to deliver her right to the test of a lifetime.
