Coralee June is an American romance author. She has always been fascinated by storytelling and how much influence it has on people and their life decisions. The first book in this dystopian series is fascinating. Coralee June has done a fantastic job in world-building that gives the reader an image of this type of society split happening across the different parts of the world should a pandemic of this nature happen. The conflict between rich and poor, those in the camps and the Providences, are unsurprising given the world we live in today. The author does a fantastic job of creating Ashleigh’s character. She is a young, intelligent, but naïve character who understands things quickly provided she’s given a chance and doesn’t hesitate to fight for her happiness. We are first introduced to her at the start of her journey to adulthood; through this, the readers get to tag along.
Coralee is a visionary author, she’s not afraid of the unconventional story but instead shines bright in complex dynamics, and that’s why her stories are spellbinding. Additionally, the author is a rule breaker as she cleverly and without embarrassment colors the outside of the lines, break romance rules and tropes, and takes risks that a few other authors would. That’s why she is one of the most versatile novelists, as she constantly challenges herself and the readers. Additionally, Coralee June is a character writer who understands and develops her characters with passion and artistry. It is why her characters are 3D, unforgettable and have a deep emotional impact on the readers. Additionally, the author has a point of view to her tales which are always entertaining but also have depth and meaning.
The Walker series is nothing like what you’ve already guessed. Most readers often associate the name “Walker” with the zombies you will find in the famous AMC TV series, The Walking Dead. No, this series is nothing close to the TV series. It is a dystopian entertainment so complex and emotionally resonant. It’s an intriguing reverse harem with slow-burn romance. It is also a story about a society beyond the normal, a society adjusting to the new normal but still bound by rules, even though the author writes it as a story that breaks all the rules. It is a story that thrives in the world’s apocalypse as we know it, and the story builds an entirely new one.
Wings of the Walker, the first book in Coralee June’s The Walker series, is a slow-burn reverse harem. We are introduced to a walker named Ashleigh. Walkers are the pandemic survivors who are naturally immune but poor. Some survivors aren’t immune but because they are wealthy, they can afford a vaccine and those who can’t afford it are forced to live in camps far away so that they can’t infect the masses, and at times they are bought by the wealthy folks as enslaved people.
Ashleigh was bought as a slave at the age of 3 by the Stonewell family, one of the famous families in Providence. She spends her childhood alongside Josiah, one of the family’s sons, and she adores him even though she knows they can never be together. And one day, Josiah’s girlfriend arrives. This novel is such a fantastic mix of genres. The dystopian aspects are nothing short of breathtaking, as Coralee does a beautiful job of combining past and present culture and technology to create an entirely new world for her readers to immerse themselves in. There is so much going on, and the entire series has been well-crafted to keep you entertained and captivated.
Bastards and Scapegoats is the first book in the Coralee June Twisted Legacy Duet series, first published in 2020. It introduces us to Vera Garner; a woman used to a hard life. She and her mother constantly struggle for safety, money, and happiness. She soon finds herself thrown into the lavish and elite life of the Beauregards when her mother is married to Joseph, one of the eldest sons of the elite family. Vera is trying to adjust to the new reality of life, but her stepfather’s brother doesn’t make it easy for her. Hamilton is a cocky, arrogant man, but she cannot resist him. Will indulging in a relationship with him ruin her?
Bastards and Scapegoats is told from Vera’s point of view. She is an innovative and mature girl with a big heart that cares not only for herself but her mother and her happiness. She’s determined to pay back for all her mother’s sacrifices and doesn’t care if doing so will break her apart. Her life is the opposite of what she expected, and she’s desperately seeking support.
Hamilton, the black sheep of the wealthy family, is the last person she expected to offer her support. He is edgy, dominating, enigmatic, and volatile, and his heart is a void ruin with no place for love. But beneath that cold and heartless man lives a broken and often misunderstood man craving true love, and Vera manages to creep inside the broken heart, and pure fireworks begin.
The chemistry in this book is exceptionally sensational. The relationship between Vera and Hamilton is a forbidden taboo, and that thrill contributes to the charisma of their romance. The two have a deep soul bond. Hamilton takes care of Vera and protects her when the entire world is waging against her. And because she needed someone, she paid for this protection by soothing his scarred heart.
There are lots of secrets in this book, and they never stop coming, as this is a tale of an entangled mess of lies, deceptions, and power plays. Why is Hamilton the black sheep in the family? Could it be because of the scandals under his name or because he never wanted to venture into politics? Does Joseph intend to get rid of Vera?
