Books released

1. Death By Coffee: 1st Series

This is one of the most acclaimed books written by Alex Erickson. Here, two best friends Krissy Hancock and Vicki make a resolution to open up a bookstore in Pine Hills, their hometown. Following the renowned mystery novel by Krissy’s father, they decide to call it “Death by Coffee”. As good as it sounds, none of them realizes how well-suited the name is.

On day 1 of business, one of their customers by the name Brendon Lawyer takes his coffee and immediately dies. On scrutinizing his predicament, it is realized that he suffered a peanut allergy but what is more surprising is that how could it have happened when he was only taking coffee. Another question is who might have stolen his medication kit for his allergies?

With the deep love and desire for mysteries and puzzles, Krissy lands to see Officer Paul Danton and gets to realize that together with his neighbors, that they are not very much saddened by the turn of events for Mr. Brendon. Surely one of them has to be the killer. This means that Krissy has to figure out who is using her store to eliminate people. Will she make it?

2. Death By Tea: 2nd Series

In this series, mystery seekers go to Pine Hills for the year’s book competition which is to be helf at Krissy’s new store. Unbeknown to all, the killer is in their midst with the sole aim of outwitting them all and also send Krissy to the bin completely.

Prior to two book clubs dueling at the Death by Coffee store, one of those meant to compete turns up dead. He meets his death by the silver teapot that is meant to be the winner’s prize. Almost immediately, Krissy is the number one suspect since she had been seen moving around in the wee hours of the night in dark clothes on the night of the murder.

Thus, to clear her name, she decides to find the real killer and ends up meeting an old flame, Paul Dalton.

Even when all measures have been taken by Krissy and the officer to ensure that there are no more murders being committed, he still manages to kill a competitor during the book competition even before it has began. With his antics threatening the close of the Death by Coffee store, it is interesting to see to what lengths he/she is willing to go to ensure that he/she gets want they want.

Even he seems convinced that she is the one since all the evidence points to her. With Officer John Buchannan, her personal nemesis, bent on ensuring that he pins the murder on her, Krissy has to become a super detective in order to find this killer and clear her name.

Characters in the Series

Without a doubt, the 3 characters who make this series are Krissy Hancock, Officer John Buchannan and the killer.

Krissy Hancock: With all the murders happening in her store and the killer making it seem that she is the one behind it all, it is remarkable to see how she becomes quite the super detective. From all the lengths she is prepared to take and how she prepares to deal with anyone who will prevent her from achieving her goals make her thrilling. She is determined and she has everything to lose when she fails to prove her innocence. As you see her on this journey, you begin to understand what kind of person she is and empathize with her situation.

Officer John Buchannan: As someone who has been employed by the state to ensure that justice is served and that culprits are charges and kept behind bars to prevent them from harming anyone, his work is very simple, or is it? While he struggles to find all that he needs to pin the murder on Krissy, it becomes difficult for him to do his job while the person whom he believed to be the killer is also trying to prove her innocence. The tail spins of how things go on his adventure and the people he uses to get what he wants makes him quite the hunter. He is the law and the law should be upheld no matter who you are.

The Killer: Alex Erickson depiction of this character is nothing short of amazing. His witty abilities and how he manages to be elusive from all and still manages to kill people in Pine Hills is remarkable.

Although the second series of Death by Tea is yet to be released, its plot makes for a wonderful expectance seeing the success of the first book by Alex Erickson. His writing prowess is nothing short of amazing. His depiction of the characters and how they all interact without the knowledge of who the next victim for the killer will be is quite remarkable.

Erickson also has gone a step further to show the mind of the killer working against that of Krissy and it is up to you to figure out who will outwit the other as you read along while the both of them are being chased by the officer. This bookstore café mystery is one that you are not able to see what is coming next. With no shortage of suspects in this tale, funny scenes, coffee, bumbling amateur sleuth, it makes great for an afternoon reading. It contains just the right mix of humor and mystery.
