Mooncakes is a 2019 graphic novel designed for young adults. If you’re a young adult and have been looking for something interesting to read, check this graphic novel out! This novel was co-created alongside illustrator Wendy Xu.
Mooncakes is the story of demons and love as well as witchcraft and family. Main character Nova Huang knows a lot more about magic than you might suspect and more than the average teen witch does.
Nova is employed with a job and is working at her grandmother’s bookshop. There she assists them in loaning out spell books, in addition to looking into supernatural occurrences that tend to happen in a town in New England.
Working at the bookshop is cool, but it’s not the same as having magic in your life when you’re selling magical books. Until one night, when everything changes.
That night, Nova goes into the woods following reports of a white wolf. What she finds is unexpected: She finds her childhood crush battling a horse demon in the forest. Tam Lang is engaged in battle with a horse demon and is himself a werewolf. He also happens to be her childhood crush.
Tam being a werewolf means that he has been going to different places for years and cannot call any of the New England towns home. Tam is pursued by dark forces who want to get the wolves’ magic and no longer has any options left to him.
He has to turn to Nova for help. In addition, their feelings are rekindled against a witchcraft backdrop, as well as occult rituals, untested magic, and new and old family ties in this wonderful story of self-discovery and more!
