Sarah Everett is a published author of fiction. She was born in west Africa but currently lives in Alberta, Canada.
Sarah remembers growing up in magical forests, on desert islands, and inside a magical wardrobe. She says that she would only erase some questionable karaoke sets and some of her fashion choices.
She is known as the author of several books for young readers. This extends to The Probability of Everything and How to Live Without you, award-winning stories. She has been writing since she was a child and her work has been published in eleven languages.
When Sarah is not busy reading or writing, she is either perfecting her tree yoga pose, dreaming about summer, or getting ready for her next travel adventure. She resides in the Canadian prairies.
The Probability of Everything is a middle grade story debut from Sarah Everett. This is about Kemi, an eleven year old girl who is an aspiring scientist. She loves stats and facts, but when she has a moment that she has to navigate of grief and loss, her life as she knows it may change forever.
Scientific facts and probability are how Kemi Carter understands both the world and her place in it. Kemi knows that the odds of her being born were one in five point five trillion, and the odds of having the best family even lower. She lucked out.
Everything that she thought that she knew changes when she sees the purple haze of an asteroid in the sky. Amplus-68 had a good chance of colliding with the Earth in four days – 84.7%– and that collision would mean that her life as she knows it would be over.
Over the course of these next days, facts don’t feel true to Kemi anymore. The new town that she went to that is better for her family isn’t welcoming. Others are still attending school and eating out like nothing has changed. She feels like she’s the only one who feels like the world is ending.
Kemi decides that since her days are numbered, she is going to put together a time capsule. This will allow her to capture the truth of her family. How creative and nice her mother is, how inquisitive her little sister is, and how much of her own world revolves around her father.
However, no time capsule can change the truth of it all, which is that she must face saying goodbye. Can Kemi face up to the simple truth that it’s the end of the world? Can they be saved? Read this riveting novel to find out.
The Shape of Lost Things is another book for young adults and adults alike. If you’ve been looking for something new to read, check this story out.
Skye reunites with Finn, her older brother, after he has spent four years on the run with their father. Skye Nickson had her world change forever when her father went on the run with Finn, her brother.
Now it’s been four solid years without her brother’s jokes, without their father’s soul music, and her filling in as her brother on the birthdays where Finn wasn’t available for their mom. His birthday is always difficult, but Skye has her cool best friends Reece and Jax to lean on, even if Reece has started to act like he’s too cool for them.
This year is different from the others because after his birthday, they get a call that he’s been found. This Finn is tall and quiet, and secretive. He seems nothing like the brother that she remembers growing up with.
He takes phone calls late at night and loses his expensive gifts. He doesn’t appear to recall any of their secrets or inside jokes. Through the lens of her old Polaroid camera, Skye tries to make sense of all of this. Could he have changed into someone else completely? If everyone’s changed, does she have to change too? Read this book to find out!
