Matt Kracht is a published author known for his humorous guides to birds and more.
He is known for writing his books and for drawing pictures to go along with them as well. Matt says that has what he has always loved to do. When he was younger, his parents sometimes would have to make him go outside and play. There he was left to his own devices and given the option would have spent all day coming up with stories about the adventures of ghosts and pirates, illustrating each and every page with his own drawing.
He says that his parents never discouraged him from doing art, writing, or other creative things, and were very supportive. But Matt also notes that they were ‘wise enough’ to understand that kids also need to go outside and climb a tree or ride a bike every once in a while, even if they have to be prodded out of the door in order to do it. The author says that he’s grateful if he’s being honest for the effort and it was ‘a pretty sweet life’, despite the interruptions to his writing routine.
Later, Matt enjoyed a successful career as a creative professional at a coffee company located in Seattle. There he would stay over-caffeinated and very busy for over two decades. He says that along the way he was able to make some cool friends and have some adventures, but notes that they are stories for another time.
Generally these days, he has returned to spending time writing books and drawing for them. Even though he does still enjoy going outside, he does tend to stay out of the trees these days.
He enjoys creating books that are able to celebrate the humor that comes with life’s absurdities. He is married and resides with his wife in Seattle. There they enjoy taking in the beautiful waters of the Puget Sound from their window while making fun of birds.
Matt is known for writing OMFG, BEES!, and his best selling works The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America and The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World. Both of the Field Guide bird books were finalists for a Goodreads Choice Award in the humor category.
