Two of his novels were also adapted into films, Judas Gun and Rio Bravo. The films came out under the titles A Long Ride from Hell and the film Oregon Passage. His short story “Silent Reckoning” was also adapted into the movie The Lonesome Trail.
The author was born in Chicago not too long after his mother emigrated to the United States from Scotland. Shirreffs joined the National Guard and his unit ended up being activated in 1940. He served in World War II as a result, stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska as part of the Pacific Theater.
After the war, Gordon decided to attend Northwestern University, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree. He would get married to Alice Johanna Gutwein on Februrary 7, 1941, in El Paso, Texas.

At some place located between Texas and Tampico, in Apache country, a young killer is moving as quickly as his horse is able to go and still carry him. Behind him are two different groups, both of which have the stated intention of hunting him down. On top of that, behind him is a bounty hunter by the name of Lee Kershaw. Nothing has stopped Kershaw, not even the information that he had taught the outlaw all that he knew. When he catches up with this young man, it could spell out the end of both of them. Will they be all right, and will they be able to make it through this? Read this book to find out!
Bowman’s Kid is the second book in the Manhunter series by Gordon D. Shirreffs. If you liked all of the western action that came in the first book in the series, be sure to check out the sequel and see what you think!
The main character in this story is a part of the most dangerous business in the world, and on top of that, he is still alive. A man rides north in the late summer night, and in his shirt pocket he holds a thousand dollars (quite a lot for the time) as well as a strange silver button that was given to him by a stranger in a saloon in New Mexico that is totally out of the way.
The cash that he is carrying happens to be his fee for tracking down a rich man’s son, who had been taken away by the Mescalero Indians an incredible eighteen years prior. The silver button is the only clue that he has as to where this person might be.
A stranger left the rider with a warning to watch his back. He is Lee Kershaw, the man that they call Manhunter. They say that he can do things that no other man alive is able to do. He also got his reputation the difficult way, and paid plenty of blood. Will the rider be able to find the man he is looking for, or will he discover that all of his efforts are in vain? Read this book to find out!
