Juneau Black is the author, a joint pseudonym that is shared by Sharon Nagel and Jocelyn Cole. Jocelyn also writes romance stories using the pen name of Elizabeth Cole.

The two authors have many things in common. They like going to great bookshops, they enjoy fine cheeses, and they also like a good murder (although in fictional formatting only). They are two different people, but if you ask either of the authors a question about their childhood, you might just end up getting the same answer.

Sharon resides in Wisconsin and Jocelyn lives in Philadelphia. Jocelyn identifies as a romance writer who has a proclivity for history. This is perhaps why she lives in a house that is so old in an older city. She can be discovered spending time in libraries or archives, or else curled up in the corner reading with a cat on her lap. She says that she believes in love at first sight, but also thinks that macaroni and cheese is a healthy breakfast, so she says don’t automatically trust her judgment on it all.

Sharon Nagel is an author and a librarian. She has a background in independent book selling as well as library services. Her career in writing started with her graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an MLIS degree in 2020. She is employed as a reference librarian at the Whitefish Bay Public Library and is known for writing stories that frequently have woodland creatures who interact with humans.

Shady Hollow is the first book in the Shady Hollow series by Juneau Black. If you have been looking for a story that is pretty original, check out this book where you get introduced to the village of Shady Hollow!

This is the type of place where the creatures of the woodland forest are able to reside together in harmony. That is, until a curmudgeonly toad ends up dead and there’s a local reporter who has been assigned to the case to solve it.

Reporter Vera Vixen is fairly new to Shady Hollow, but she wants to do her best to get things done. This fox has a nose for news, so when she finds out that there is a chance that a local death may be instead a murder, she promises herself that she is going to get to the bottom of this case no matter where it decides to take her.

As she makes ripples in waters that were formerly still, the fox ends up exposing more than one mystery along the way and then finds out that there are still more lives who remain in jeopardy. Vera discovers that there is far more to the town than she ever thought there was.

It appears that there is someone out there in the Hollow who is desperate enough to do what it takes to keep her from solving this murder. Soon enough, it’s going to require all of the cunning and quick thinking that Vera can muster if she wants to solve the case. Can she get to the bottom of what is happening or will it be too late? Read this book to find out!

Cold Clay is the second book in the Shady Hollow series by Juneau Black. This is the sequel of the series where a lot of secrets that have been buried for a long time start coming up and they are throwing suspicion on a beloved local citizen.

Autumn has come around in Shady Hollow, and the residents who live there are looking forward to having some nice harvest feasts. That is before a rabbit ends up stumbling on to something unexpected: the remains of a moose.

It isn’t too long before the owner of Joe’s Mug is pulled out from the coffee shop so that he can be questioned by the police. They are asking about the night that his wife decided to leave his life and walk away from him as well as Shady Hollow for good.

It may seem that the case is a simple open and shut scenario, but others are not so convinced. For instance, Vera Vixen does not believe that the gentle Joe could be anything close to a killer. She would do anything when it comes to showing that he is innocent and prove it for good. This may include digging into the secrets that her neighbors might prefer to leave alone.

Can she get to the bottom of everything and find some answers that satisfy, or is there more work to be done here? Read this book to find out!
