Aurora Palit is a Canadian published author.

She is a first generation Bengali-Canadian. Aurora spent her childhood years growing up in the rural areas of Alberta, the only South Asian student to be found in her class.

Aurora always had a love of reading, something that started for her at the age of four. It was not until she got to high school when she found herself in a bookstore’s romance section that she had the realization that she really loved happily ever after endings.

Go forward a number of years and the author is now finding herself writing some stories of her own. She is using her own brand of perspective, humor, and the belief that people of color are deserving of love stories as well. Aurora spent time going after a master’s degree in English literature, and during that process, she was also drawn to discussions about topics that she now explores in her writing.

When she is not busy testing the patience of her characters, she can be found doing a variety of things. She can be roasting her spouse, working to raise her kids, looking for chocolate, or dancing. She also has a day job and spends her days working as a communications professional for a not-for-profit organization.

Sunshine and Spice is a 2024 novel written by Aurora Palit. If you have been searching for a completely unique romantic novel that is set in a very specific world, this is the book for you. It also may be particularly appealing to those who have family who have immigrated to a country or if you belong to the Asian community.

Two totally opposite people end up agreeing that they will fake date each other so that they can tackle their own cultural problems and find a temporary solution. But in the process, they may discover that the only force that can be stronger than the matchmaking schemes of an immigrant mother is true love.

Naomi Kelly is desperate to do anything that it takes to make her brand consulting business successful. The new business is slow to get off the ground, but things could completely turn around when she receives a contract to work on the local bazaar owned by the Mukherjee family and rebrand it completely. If she’s going to make this business work, she’s going to need to make this project a slam dunk.

Naomi understands that making mistakes is going to be part of things here, but she also knows that she really can’t afford to make any. She is the mistake baby of a Bengali mother with a free spirit, but she also knows that she doesn’t have much of a connection to her own roots and culture. It is everything that Gia Mukherjee looks down upon. Luckily, she may find that she has an ally with Dev in her corner.

Dev Mukherjee knows his mother wants him to get married as soon as possible and while she has her business to tend, she also is fully capable of getting him to pursue this goal as well. It seems so typical when Gia ends up hiring a matchmaker to help him find a mate without bothering to ask him beforehand whether he is even interested.

Dev is furious as his mother knows that he is not that interested in prearranged dating or marriage. He promises himself that he is going to do whatever it takes so that he does not end up in a horrible marriage that is cold and lacking love. When a possible match implies that Naomi is his girlfriend, he decides to go with it. This could be the answer to both of their problems. She could help him fend off matches by acting as his girlfriend, and he could help her work to rebrand the bazaar and get her business going.

Naomi agrees to pretend to be dating Dev so that they can both get ahead of the matchmaking work, so long as he helps her understand Bengali culture better. It seems like the plan could not go wrong, but they also have no idea what is coming their way.

Dev and Naomi don’t seem to have any natural chemistry at first. They even get on each others’ nerves. But when they start to bond over their various activities, like dancing, going on couples’ cooking classes, and going for the rebrand together, they start to have the epiphany that they really are falling for each other. Their relationship may be entirely fake for now, but the emotions that they are feeling about the other is actually real.

The line between rumor and reality starts to blur, and now the pair have to face just what it might mean to fit into their culture. Can they fearlessly go after what they really want in life– each other? And will it mean that Naomi is risking her big job in the process by potentially angering Dev’s mother? Read this romance to find out!
