The Lora Weaver Mystery Series

Cozy mystery meets rom-com with a French twist in this lighthearted, fast-paced mystery series featuring Lora Weaver, a New York social worker turned Montréal sleuth who solves cases with heart, humour, and a sprinkle of gumption.

Newbie P.I. Lora Weaver is new to the city, new to the job, and fumbling her way along the charming cobblestone streets of Montréal guided by her rusty French skills and rose-coloured glasses. She’s got a savvy new bestie with a black belt and a knack for picking locks, a boyfriend with reservations about her career path, and an ex-cop mentor with too many rules and definitely too many smouldering glances.

Determined to prove herself in her new job and show that she’s got what it takes to climb the P.I. ladder, Lora plunges herself into one case after the other, diving headfirst into a world of missing persons, identity thieves, and dodgy divorce cases. Along the way, Lora finds herself juggling romantic entanglements (including a love triangle everyone but her seems to notice), navigating her new life in a French-speaking city, and rediscovering herself along the way.

The series blends cozy mystery comfort with rom-com banter and enough emotional depth to tug at the heart. Set amidst the old-world charm of Montréal, these books are about more than mysteries. They’re about the magic of found family, the bonds of female friendship, and Lora’s need to make sense of her past so she can truly embark on her future.

While the mystery cases bring twists and stakes to Lora’s life, it’s her growing confidence and self-discovery that keep the pages turning in these lighthearted capers.

With several books in the series along with some holiday novellas, Lora’s new life is in full swing. For a bit more about Lora’s adventures, here’s a glimpse at a few books in the series:

The First Faux Pas (Book 1)

Idealistic social worker Lora Weaver moves from New York to Montréal with her boyfriend, Adam, expecting a life of croissants and coupledom. Not crime scenes. But when her lack of French shuts every door to employment but one, she finds herself working for a private investigation agency run by her new rule-bending bestie, Camille Caron, and Camille’s very rule-bound and very distracting ex-cop brother, Laurent.

Armed with nothing but her people skills, stubborn optimism, and rose-coloured glasses, Lora decides to prove she’s got what it takes to make it in the P.I. biz by solving a case involving a missing dad with ties to a little girl, a haughty socialite, and a bumbling thug. All while hosting an unexpected houseguest with boundary issues at home and juggling Caron family feuds at the office. But as the case heats up and Lora’s drawn deeper into trouble, she starts to wonder if her first venture into the P.I. world could be her last!

The Pas de Deux (Book 2)

Lora’s second mystery as a P.I. takes her undercover as fake fiancée to her very real boss, Laurent, as they track an identity thief through the whirlwind world of wedding planning.

Amid dance lessons, flower shopping, and a rushed search for a wedding dress, Lora is pushed way out of her comfort zone playing her alter ego Bunny. As bodies start falling around her, Lora’s need to unmask the identity thief quickly grows before the thief pins the whole mess on her!

But lucky for Lora, she’s not alone. She’s got her charming French fake fiancé by her side, her bff covering her back, and a sidekick poodle riding shotgun. A sidekick poodle who just may make doggie detective before the case is over.

With her very real jealous boyfriend, Adam, questioning her every move, Lora’s going to need some pretty fancy footwork to get out of this one!

The Ménage à Trois (Book 3)

With Lora’s next case, she finds herself in a tight spot. A very tight spot.

When Lora is tasked with catching a suspected insurance scammer on the move and snaps a picture of the suspect things start to spiral fast.

Cue cranky cops, sketchy characters, and a possible kingpin nicknamed Penguin.

Add in pregnancy drama from her part-time roomie Tina, jealousy drama from live-in beau Adam, professional drama courtesy of her maddeningly rule abiding and attractive mentor Laurent, and her bestie Camille’s relationship drama, and Lora could come dangerously close to splashing down in deep water if she doesn’t solve this case fast!

The Petit-Four Score (Book 4)

Rookie P.I. Lora Weaver thought she’d be watching a cheating husband. Instead, she’s stuck on a boring stakeout watching pastry displays fill the window of a charming bakery while her legs fall asleep in a cramped car.

But when she stumbles into a dead body on her snack break, the boring stakeout goes from boring to bedlam when Lora gets pegged as the only witness to the crime!

Realizing she needs to find the culprit tout-de-suite, Lora is soon chasing divorce secrets, deciphering cryptic clues, and tracking a posse of the cheating husband’s sweeties on the side through one of Montréal’s most prestigious quartiers.

With ex-cop Laurent playing guardian angel and BFF Camille joining the mission, Lora’s balancing mystery, mischief, and maybe a little magic (courtesy of tea-leaf reader Tante Claudette) before she runs out of time to solve the case!

The Demi-Tasse Début (Prequel, wherein Lora meets Camille and Laurent)

Before she was solving P.I. cases and getting caught in love triangles, Lora Weaver was a social worker with a love of books and a penchant for people-watching.

Until one hot summer day, after a slew of job interview rejections, Lora attempts to distract herself with a comfort read of a cherished book at a chic café when a handsome stranger takes a seat at her table. A stranger who sets to scribbling in a mysterious journal that Lora can’t help but see. Then the stranger disappears and, shortly thereafter, so does Lora’s beloved Jane Austen book!

What follows is a Montréal adventure full of mysterious strangers, shadowy deals, and new friendships—including the fabulous Camille Caron and her enigmatic brother Laurent who will become Lora’s newfound family.

The Demi-Tasse Début is the origin story of Lora Weaver’s P.I. adventures, packed with charm, humour, and the kind of serendipity that changes lives. Perfect for new readers or longtime fans craving another escapade from the Lora Weaver world.
