Charm City Rocks is a 2023 novel by Matthew Norman. If you have been looking for something original and creative that is completely going to pull you in, this is the perfect story for you!
A single father ends up meeting the rock star crush he had when he was younger, and in the process ends up finding out that everything that he thought he knew when it comes to love and happiness is thrown into complete chaos in a romantic comedy story that may have you believing in love all over again.
Main character Billy Perkins is someone who is genuinely happy. He’s just that type of guy and it’s kind of known for being his thing. He is justified in it because he has every reason to be happy. He has a great job working as an independent music teacher and loves his apartment in Baltimore, which is conveniently located right above a record shop that is called none other than ‘Charm City Rocks’.
More than all of that, though, he has family that he can be proud of. He is immensely proud of his smart teen son Caleb and loves him a lot. Even though he might not be the most traditional parent in the world, Billy still finds that he has a lot that he can teach his son and pass on about art and manhood, and wants to do it before Caleb leaves for college.
Then there’s Margot Hammer, who is not all that happy. She once used to drum for the rock band Burnt Flowers, which had its time in the sun when it comes to fame. But now she discovers that she’s a recluse when it comes to the world of rock and roll, and living on her own in New York City all alone.
When a new music documentary comes out, it has the unexpected side effect of putting Margot back in the stream of things and in the spotlight once more. The attention is nice, but it also starts making her think about her old band and realize how much she missed not only them but the music that seemingly gave some meaning to her life.
Billy had entertained a crush on Margot for a long time. But at the time, she was a real rock star and that was intimidating. He never thought that in the course of his life that he would actually get to meet her. But then Caleb gets worried that his dad might be lonely and decides to come up with his own plan which involves getting Margot to put on a show at where else but Charm City Rocks.
It’s something that is pretty out there and is certainly a long shot. But Margot’s label has explicitly put it out there and made it clear to everyone that getting any type of publicity is the type of chance that she really shouldn’t pass up. When their paths come together, Billy has the realization that perhaps he is not as happy as he believed he was. Margot might find out that she too has a crush on this dad and maybe duets are better than she thought when it comes to music and other things. Can they get together, or is it not meant to be? Read this book to find out!
Grace & Henry’s Holiday Movie Marathon is a fictional 2025 novel written by Matthew Norman. The Washington Post picked it as one of its Noteworthy Books of the Month, describing how the author weaves ‘nostalgic references to modern holiday classics’ throughout the ‘comforting romance’.
An advertising creative worker and a bar owner discover that they have yet another chance at love while watching holiday movies in this romance story that will sweep readers off of their feet! Escape into another realm in this fantastic story.
The new year had just barely gotten started, but two people are about to find out that they are hit by a twist of fate. Grace White and Henry Adler both go through the unfortunate experience of losing their spouses. Close to a year later, it’s the first holiday season coming up since they went through their individual sad experiences. Neither of them feel that they are ready to put themselves out there and date again, even though their mothers are doing their best to line them up matches.
The two are still grieving the changes of their lives and what they have lost, and they end up finding that they are understanding what the other one is going through better than many people in their lives can. Through this relating, a friendship is struck up.
Henry ends up glimpsing an advertisement for a Christmas movie marathon. It used to be an annual tradition for his wife and himself, but obviously that time has now passed. But Grace offers him company to watch some of the films, even though she is not a fan of all of the movies that he’s picked out. Her two kids also end up joining them for some of it, when their bedtimes allow.
With every movie that they watch together, Grace and Henry start to feel that their grief is not as heavy to carry. They start to picture the possibility of the two of them having a life, one that exists far beyond all of the sadness. As they get closer together, different romantic possibilities have them both uncertain about what the future together holds.
Is the bond that they have the result of loneliness and being in the same position? Or is it possible that they have found real love, the type worth taking a chance on? Read this romance from Matthew Norman to find out!
