Rex Ogle is an American published author. He also goes by the artistic names/pen names of Trey King, Rey Terciero, and Honest Lee. You can find some of his graphic novels under the pen name of Rey Terciero.
He is an award-winning author and has written many comics, children’s books, graphic novels, and memoirs. This also includes Free Lunch, which won the ALA/YALSA Award for Excellence in Non-Fiction.
Rex was born in the state of Texas, where he grew up. He would attend college and then move to New York City to intern at Marvel Comics. He then switched over to work at DC Comics, Little Brown Young Readers, and Scholastic.
He worked as an editor too, championing over a dozen books that were New York Times bestsellers. He also worked on and frequently wrote for large brands including Star Wars, X-Men, Justice League, LEGO, Transformers, Power Rangers, Assassin’s Creed, Minecraft, Neil Patrick Harris’s Magic Misfits, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Rex has written works using a variety of different pen names. His pen name Rey Terciero is a nickname that was given to him from his Abuela. It is is Spanish meaning ‘third king’. His name Rex is also Latin for King, and he is the third Rex to be in his family, so it’s an appropriate nickname. He uses it to re-imagine classics as modern/diverse graphic novels.
His book Abuela Don’t Forget Me was an ALA/YALSA Award for Excellence in Non-Fiction finalist. He is also known for Road Home, which won a Michael Printz Honor and was a Stonewall Honor book. He is also known for the graphic novels Four Eyes and Pizza Face.
He resides in Los Angeles. There he uses his time to either write or go outside hiking with his dog Toby when he is not reading or playing MarioKart with some friends.
The Supernatural Society is the first book in the series of the same name by Rex Ogle. This is a great book for younger readers or for parents and younger readers to read together. Bestselling author Stuart Gibbs says that in this book monsters ‘have never been so much fun’. Neil Patrick Harris echoes this, calling the book ‘Frightening and fun’. It’s perfect for those who are in middle school or the middle grades.
This is a story about a town that is full to the brim with monsters as well as the kids who have to get to the bottom of years of secrets if they want to save it. Main character Will Hunter is practically in disbelief.
He really thought at this point that life could not get any worse for him. His parents had just decided to get divorced. The only friend that he has in the world is his best friend, his dog Fitz. His mom had also decided that now was a great time to relocate them all the way from New York City to some town in the middle of nowhere named East Emerson.
Will was wrong about all of it, because things can always get worse, and they are about to. It turns out that East Emerson has a ton of monsters, and on top of that, he’s actually the only person that is able to see them.
Then all the pets in town start to go missing, and Fitz goes missing too. This is when Will knows for sure that there is something strange happening. He decides that it is time to team up with Ivy the outcast and the very smart Linus to get to the bottom of the old secrets that East Emerson is harboring.
They’re fairly certain that there’s nothing bad that could go down when three sixth graders decide that it’s time to join forces. As they take on magic, myths, monsters, mad science and more, are they going to regret taking this adventure on? Or in a place like this, was it just inevitable? Can things turn around for Will? Read the first book in this series to find out!
Curse of the Werewolves is the second book in The Supernatural Society series by Rex Ogle. If you read the first in this series and liked it, check out the exciting followup to the adventurous supernatural debut and see what you think.
East Emerson has returned. The place is known for being full of monsters, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad place. Middle grade readers will love this funny and spooky story that revolves around three young kids who have to uncover some secrets in order to save the day.
Will Hunter is finding that things are at last starting to look a little more sunny. He’s become accustomed to seeing monsters wherever he goes, but he has also made some new connections. He is now best friends with Ivy and Linus, his neighbors. They also happen to be able to see the monsters too. They were all even able to work together to rescue the town from a vampire who kidnapped pets.
Even though they already went through so much, it appears that Will is going to run into even more problems. There is a werewolf that is loose in East Emerson. It’s attacking people and turning them into mind controlled animals at every turn. Now Will is going to become one of them.
Will Ivy, Linus and Will be able to discover who’s behind the shape shifting army in time, or is Will destined to be a werewolf the rest of his life? They are going to have to work fast if they want to get results and if they want to prevent their friend from turning into a wolf on a regular basis every time there is a full moon.
Readers are loving this story and so are other authors! Max Brallier praised this book, saying ‘Sign me up!’. Lots of fun and completely lighthearted, go along with the trio on an adventure filled with supernatural creatures. Check out Curse of the Werewolves by Rex Ogle to see how it ends.
