Jamie Loftus is a television writer, a podcaster, comedian, and actor based out of Los Angeles.

She has been a staff writer on shows such as Robot Chicken, Teenage Euthanasia, and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Jamie also wrote a web series for Comedy Central that she also starred in. She has written and hosted podcasts that had limited runs and co-hosts “The Bechdel Cast” with Caitlin Durante on the How Stuff Works Network. The author also happens to have her baby teeth bronzed and has loaded them into a slingshot in case a situation arises where she needs these things.

Fans may know Jamie for her independent work. She wrote and performed several one woman shows, such as ‘I Lost My Virginity on August 15, 2010’ and ‘Boss, Whom is Girl’. Boss was brought over to the U.K. from Los Angeles. Loftus has not stopped there and has written humorous articles and appeared in video content that she also wrote for sites like Paste, Comedy Central, Super Deluxe, and Adult Swim. Her Robot Chicken contributions earned her an Emmy nomination in 2020.

The author got her start in Brockton, Massachusetts. Her mother ran a daycare center, her father worked as a hockey reporter, and Jamie herself worked at a hot dog truck. She landed a job at The Boston Globe once out of college, but was fired due to a graphic tweet about a stand up set she had done at an open mic. Jamie also works as a canvasser for the Democratic Socialists of America.

Jamie has been a co-host of the weekly podcast The Bechdel Cast with Caitlin Durante for some time. She released her My Year in Mensa podcast, a four-parter, in 2020. It focused on the events around her attempts to apply to join Mensa so that she could have content and a story for a series of articles intended to be released in Paste.

Her Lolita Podcast came out in 2020, a ten-part podcast that was all about the impact of the novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Her podcast series about the comic Cathy came out in 2021, and was called ‘Aack Cast’. Her podcast series Ghost Church came out with nine episodes in 2022, and dives into the Spiritualist religion in America. Her weekly podcast Sixteenth Minute (of Fame) came out in 2024 for Cool Zone Media, which dealt with her taking on various main characters of the Internet who briefly became famous through the web.

Her book Raw Dog came out in 2023. It goes into detail about her experiences of different hot dogs in America, while Jamie also follows the rise of popularity of the food in the U.S. in the Great Depression due to immigrants from Greece, Germany, and Poland.

Farce is a 2012 book by Jamie Loftus. If you enjoy a good fictional work that is very unique, check out this book and see what you think! Perfect for late night reading or a quick commute.

The Eternal Virgin is a cruise liner that is doomed. On its deck are all types, from innocent people to assassins and impostors. There are also some there who could claim to be more than one of all of these.

Amynta Farce has recently graduated from college and is a trained killer. She’s something of all three of these things. The Marshall, Farce, and Wakefield families are also aboard the ship. But things are going to get strange as the passengers on board find out that no one is who they seem to be, not even people who are close to them that they thought they knew.

Amynta meets a waiter on the decks and after that puts a chain of events into motion that move quickly, faster than you would have thought. Through their attempts on board to try and find the truth, the families start to find out that things may be dark, but they’re entertaining too. Narrated by a journalist, go on a mysterious journey with these characters and see what types of hijinks they get into.

Don’t miss out on this book that is partly a travel diary, partly all about food history, and full of capitalist critique. It was also featured in places such as NPR Weekend Edition, Oprah Daily, NY Mag, Glamour, Splendid Table, Eater, The Wall Street Journal, Betches, Eater, USA Today, Boston Globe, Slate, Buzzfeed, The Next Big Idea Club, and others.

Poor people came up with hot dogs, and to this day they can be found for a variety of prices. They can be food of high or low culture, sports food, food for kids or hangovers. They are versatile and are associated with America, even though they did not come from Native American traditions. Whether you like them, love them, or hate them, you can’t get away from this ubiquitous food in the United States.

This book dives into the culinary and cultural importance of this food. It’s a travel dialogue that follows the author along on their road trip across the country, looking into the hot dog as it exists today. Dressed differently depending where you are, Loftus eats her fair share along with her ex as they make their way through the U.S. in the summer of 2021. This is an interesting read that you cannot miss, especially if you are a fan of the hot dog.
