Emily Krempholtz is an American published author.
The author says that she has never quit a day job so that she could go off on her own and open up a flower shop. However, that also might be for the reason that she is already doing something for a living that she loves, working all day with stories.
Emily is an editor, a book coach, a bestselling ghostwriter, and an author. Over the years, she has collaborated with many of other writers as they have worked together to write their books so that they can be published. Now she is beyond happy to be able to at last send a story out into the world that carries her own name on the cover as the author. After so much time writing for others, she is finally setting out on her own.
When not busy reading something or writing, you can find the author whipping up cakes that often look like the books that she reads. Emily admits that she also tends to change her hair color often, treating it almost as a type of mood ring.
She is happy to be residing in the sunny state of Colorado. There you can frequently discover her in the mountains, hiking or even pretending that she is a character out of a novel. You can also find her in a hammock all curled up with a good book.
Emily says that she is on a lifelong quest to go and find the magic in the world, although she has a suspicion that she’s going to find it in the written word.
Violet Thistlewaite Is Not a Villain Anymore is the first book to come out from Emily Krempholtz. She has written endless other stories for other writers, but now is her turn to be in the spotlight with this 2025 debut you won’t want to miss, especially if you are a fan of the genre of cozy fantasy romance.
This story features a plant witch with plenty of power and an alchemist who is vaguely grumpy. They are going to have to collaborate if they want to rescue their quiet small town from a devious magical plague that has hit it. This is a story that is about redemption, starting over again, and what it might mean to be a good person.
Guy Shadowfade has passed. Main character Violet Thistlewaite has spent many years serving as the right hand to the dark sorcerer. Now she wants to change things up so that she can live a different reality. She wants nothing more than to start over again. She doesn’t want to live as the Thornwitch that everyone is afraid of. She wants to be kind, to be better, and to be good.
Violet figures that the small town of Dragon’s Rest, a quaint place, is the ideal place to start again. She plans to put down her roots and get used to things, while opening up a flower shop. She also is going to keep her houseplant in check (the plant is vaguely homicidal and sentient). Violet is also going to have to do her best to prune dark magic from the boughs in her life.
She wasn’t sure how things were going to work out, but it appears that things are going well. She has put together wonderfully appealing bouquets full of vibrant colors. These in combination with the cheerful enchantments she does end up winning over the townspeople, who have welcomed her in with open arms. Things are going very well, Violet thinks. Perhaps better than she had hoped they would.
Even though others in town seem to be impressed with her, it seems that she is not having the same effect on Nathaniel Marsh. He is a very handsome alchemist who has a bit of a prickly demeanor, and he is also sharing her greenhouse. With his business struggling to succeed and a second chance for himself appearing to be out of reach, Nathaniel is in a certain emotional space. He feels that he has no time for silly things or flowers, and doesn’t have any time for the witch who is right next door to him.
Then things change when a strange blight shows up. As a result, nearly every plant living in Dragon’s Rest is in danger. Violet and Nathaniel are going to have to collaborate and work together through their pasts and fears if they want to be successful and rescue their community. They are also going to have to contend with or possibly ignore the feelings they have for each other that are growing.
When a person from her old life comes to her front door knocking, it appears that there are secrets out there that could mess up everything that she has worked so hard to build here if they come to light. Now Violet has to put her thinking cap on and wonder whether an old villain actually deserves to get a happy conclusion. Do bad guys get happily ever afters? Can they manage the blight, and will she admit her feelings for Nathaniel? Read this book to find out!
