Elaine Burkett is a published American author.
She resides in Utah and is married and lives with her husband. They have four children who now are all adults and they live close to them.
Her favorite thing to do as a hobby is writing. This is followed up by reading, cooking, and playing video games. When she is writing, the author frequently finds her inspiration through thinking about the type of book that she would like to read. The works she has done are usually low angst and fairly short, which in her opinion makes them ‘perfect’ for reading after a long and stressful day.
The author grew up in North Carolina but moved to Utah just a few years after she got married. Some writers say that they have felt the call to write or create for their whole lives, or write their first story when they are young or before graduating high school. She doesn’t identify with this and even considered herself lacking creativity for most of her life. She knew she could take an idea and improve it, but considered that more engineering than being creative.
Elaine thought of herself more as a math and science type of girl, looking at the world in black and white. Even though she had preferences for the scientific life, the author notes that she has always been an avid reader and always studied human behavior. She notes Pride and Prejudice as being one of her favorite books, ever since she read it in her early teen years. Her youngest child’s middle name is even Elizabeth and she also appreciates the Lord of the Rings series and the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov.
The author says that once she gets her newsletter and her blog going, she will put in more details of her life journey as well as how she became a writer and why. She does relate that the story is too long for this introduction. Her world view and understanding of herself shifted in 2012 when she became chronically ill.
Elaine describes her writing as being ‘deliberately low angst and frequently ‘low in drama’. It’s for people who enjoy reading but do not want the stress or emotional intensity that drama and angst brings, even more so when it is pointless. She instead focuses on character and relationship development. As an author, she says that her goal is to provide ‘low-stress’ entertainment so that she can help with her readers as they relax from life being so difficult.
Jane’s Estate is the first book in the Bennets’ Fortune series by Elaine Burkett. If you have been looking for an all new twist on the story that everyone knows and loves, you are in the right place.
After both of her parents passed away, Jane Bennet has discovered that she is in fact the actual owner of Longbourn. She is only eighteen years old but despite this face, she is determined to take on this responsibility and run the place well. She spends the next year learning all that she can about how to run the estate and the house. She continues to grow both in maturity and wisdom through these years, doing what she can to help her younger sisters to grow up and to raise them to be young ladies who are elegant but strong too.
Around four years later, Mr. Bingley comes to the neighborhood along with his party. The man easily falls for Miss Bennet right away, a young woman who is gentle and kind. However, the lady is not as taken with him. Instead of encouraging him, she ends up conspiring with his sister to try and get him to leave her alone.
Months later, Jane ends up going to London and taking her sister there for a couple of months. While she is there, she encounters Mr. Carruthers, one of her uncle’s business associates. She finds him charming and falls under his spell quickly. Then Elizabeth ends up encountering Mr. Darcy in Hyde Park– several times, not just once.
This is a story that is about Jane, and how her greater maturity and responsibility helps her sisters. There is also lots of attention that is given to Elizabeth, Darcy, and Mary. Sweet in the end, this is a story that will take readers away from the everyday stresses of life into another world! You can’t miss it!
Elizabeth’s Inheritance is the second book in the Bennets’ Fortune series by Elaine Burkett. If you thought that the first book in this series was engaging and sweet, be sure to check out the sequel and see what you think.
When she was just eleven years of age, Elizabeth Bennet ended up saving two lives. She rescued Mr. and Mrs. Perry when they fell into a small river by accident. Nine years down the line, Elizabeth is told that Mr. Perry had suddenly died and he had in fact chosen to leave the majority of his wealth to her.
Elizabeth claims her new estate, Mowbray Manor. In the process, she becomes friends with Mrs. Perry, who lives in the estate’s dower house. When Elizabeth gets used to her new home and responsibilities, she heads to London with Mrs. Perry, which is where the older woman spends her winters.
Once she is there, she once more runs into Mr. Darcy. He again stares at her but he has now added trying to speak with her to the mix, and also trying to dance with her whenever he can. Elizabeth pushes back against his attempt the best that she can.
A few twists and turns are taken, but some misunderstandings end up getting resolved. The couple comes together after they have had a chance to recognize their mistakes and learn and grow from them. Will Elizabeth be able to figure out what is going on with Mr. Darcy, or are they destined to continue their strange dance together a little longer? Read this second in Elaine Burkett’s series to find out!
