The Someday Daughter is a 2024 book by Ellen O’Clover. From this critically acclaimed writer comes a new story, one that is heartfelt and healing. If you have been looking for something light that is going to also keep you engaged with the story, you cannot go wrong with this book.
This story is about an upcoming college freshman who is put into the position of spending the summer with her mother, who happens to be a self-help star. Despite all of this, she has never really felt connected to her mother the way that she has wanted to.
Years prior to Audrey St. Vrain even being born, her mother was on the way up in her career. She became very famous with her book Letters to My Someday Daughter. The book was a self-help book that urged its readers (women) to go ahead and treat themselves with the same care and love that they would give to their own daughters.
The world thinks that Audrey must be supremely lucky in order to have a mother like Camilla, but Audrey doesn’t always feel that way. She knows a different side when it comes to being the someday daughter. She also was sent off to go to boarding school at eleven years old. Some days she feels that she is more used as a promotional tool and exists as that as opposed to belonging as a member of Camilla’s true family.
Audrey would love to come up with her own identity and figure out who she is. She doesn’t want to just be Camilla’s daughter. She has been excited about the summer pre-med program she was going to attend with her boyfriend before going to college and being able to get out of the shadow of her mother’s world for once.
Then Camilla surprises her by asking Audrey if she would like to go tour with her to promote the anniversary of the book. Audrey is thinking that this might be the last chance that they have to figure out how they fit in each other’s lives as something outside of the someday daughter and mother. Maybe for once they could just be themselves and show up just as they are.
Audrey does not know what to do, but she wants to give this situation a chance. Spending the summer with her mother and the tour staff may end up turning over all of her carefully laid out plans. Could the video intern Silas who is very cute be a part of this? Will Audrey regret going on the tour with her mother or should she stick to her plans with her boyfriend? Read this book to find out what happens!

Main character Louisa Walsh came out from a childhood drenched in chaos but doing well. She has a degree in counseling, a boyfriend who is fairly wealthy, and she has an optimistic outlook when it comes to life. However, she’s about to find out that her sunny look on things is tested when everything changes up out of nowhere.
Louisa is dumped and then all of a sudden she can’t even afford the rent anymore on the house she used to share with her boyfriend in the Colorado mountains. Everything may have turned upside down on her, but this is the one place in the world where she has ever felt stable and has been able to call it home. She knows enough about herself to know that losing this place is just not an option for her.
Luckily, she thinks that she may have figured out a way to make it all work. She asks Henry Rhodes, her reclusive landlord, if she can stay for free. The trade off will be that she will help rent out the rooms in the house as a bed and breakfast.
Louisa is surprised when he actually takes her up on this proposal and agrees to her terms. She is even more surprised when she finds out that Henry is actually a good looking veterinarian in his thirties. He has a little silver lurking at his temples and a sensitivity or type of sadness lingering in his eyes. He doesn’t take it all that well when she starts marketing the B&B as a retreat for those who have recently had their hearts broken, but hopefully he’ll adjust.
The Comeback Inn opens up to all of the guests, and as it does, Louisa and Henry discover that they both are starting to become aware of the connection between them. Even with business booming, there is something between them that is undeniable. But could secrets that are held deeply inside end up derailing this new start just while it was getting started?
The two could finally have a chance at love together, but are they ready for it? Do they need to heal more first or is this precisely what Henry and Lou need in order to finally heal themselves without knowing it? True love could finally be in the cards thanks to the Comeback Inn. Are Lou and Henry ready to say yes to love? Read The Heartbreak Hotel to find out!
