Cameron Sullivan is an Australian published author.

Cameron was born in Perth, Western Australia. He was someone who grew up with dark fantasy and horror icons of the eighties. He would then go on to attend the University of Western Australia where he studied classics and creative writing.

After years studying and working in Italy and the United Kingdom, Cameron came back to Australia. He settled down in Melbourne, which he thinks is the best place for Australians who enjoy the winter. In addition to writing, Sullivan also maintains a day job. He is a copywriter and it is not unheard of for him to lose a weekend thanks to getting a copy of a new book, recipe, or any type of game whether it is pub trivia or tabletop Dungeons and Dragons.

The Red Winter is a 2026 book by Cameron Sullivan. If you were a fan of the Game of Thrones series or just love stories that are placed in the fantasy genre but also incorporate many other elements, this is the book for you. Whether you want a love story, a twist on history, or a hunt for purpose, redemption and power that is drenched in blood, it’s all here for readers to enjoy.

It is the year 1785 and Professor Sebastian Grave has gotten the news that he fears the most. He knows that the Beast of Gévaudan has come back. Now the French countryside has been turned upside down, running red in its wake.

Sebastian is very familiar with the Beast. He is a monster-slayer himself who has experience not just from over the years but from over the centuries. He has been able to join the hunt for the creature and became part of it twenty years prior, watching it kill its way through a long winter that proved to be plenty bloody too.

Even though Sebastian is skilled and experienced, it might end up costing him his life if he wants to bring the monster down. Even with the help of Sarmodel, his indwelling demon. Now it’s been two decades later and Sebastian has been brought back to the hunt courtesy of Antoine Avenel d’Ocerne.

Antoine is an estranged lover who has a dark history in common with the Beast and also shares a horrible secret with Sebastian. Sebastian is pulled by the chance to be able to at last finish off the Beast for good as well as by the promise of being reconciled with Antoine.

The thing is that Gévaudan is not the same as he recalls. Sebastian has unfinished business, and unfortunately it appears to be everywhere that he looks. The people have gone through years of misery that have driven the people to complete desperation. France is on the verge of revolution.

Then there’s Sebastian’s arcane activities and his demonic counterpart, who have also drawn the eye of the French clergy. Meanwhile, the Beast is ready to put his jaws around them all– and in doing so, send the continent into war.

In a stunning debut, Cameron Sullivan retells the story of the hunt for the Beast and re-imagines the story of Europe in a way that you won’t want to miss. Check out this entertaining and captivating story that goes from imperial Rome to the French Revolution and more in an adventure that fantasy and historical fiction fans will absolutely love.
