This series features main character Naime. She thinks that all magic is beautiful and terrible. She serves as the heir to a Sultanate that was once ruling over the world. Makram, meanwhile, is an unwanted prince who has the power to destroy.
She is full of order and intellect and is the type of woman who could rule if a man were not available. Then there is Makram, who embodies elements like violence and chaos. When it comes to protecting his people, he will stop at nothing to make sure that they are safe.
Makram’s magic answers Naime’s with shadow for light. The two of them are so complementary together that it seems obvious that they really need each other. However, they may also be about to find out that balance has too much of a price. It turns out that magic is actually dying and the only way that they are going to be able to save it is to find mages who wield the power of death which is ultimately forbidden. These are the same mages that were involved in a long and drawn out bloody war years ago and were cast out.
Little do they know or are aware of the fact that a new war is on its way. It only stands to reason that science and machines are on their way and will end up displacing the old religion and magic as a result. Now the pair are going to have to find some type of way that they can rescue their people from being taken out completely and balance the Sacred Wheel. However, before all that they are going to have to balance their forbidden passion. Can they find peace in each other and discover something more? Read this debut story in the series to find out!
Storm & Shield is the second book in the Mages of the Wheel series by J.D. Evans. Fans of the first book in this series will want to keep the adventures going by reading this entertaining sequel that features the main characters of Aysel and Bashir.
She is a fierce spy who has been driven from her home by a ruler. Bashir is granite and earth, the guard of this woman who has been ordered to do what he must to keep her contained.
In order to protect her family and herself, Aysel has figured out ways to go through the world and go without being noticed and so that no one sees her. She feels like a refugee in a land that used to be her foe and now has to be her home. She doesn’t know where she belongs in the world or what her duty has to be outside of her family. She cannot protect them on their own this time around, but at the same time, the only person she can think of who would be able to help her is the one man she doesn’t want to ask.
Bashir has gone out of his way to swear his loyalty to the Sultana. He owes her since she was the one to pull him out of the very gutter that helped to make him. When a foreign spy comes who is loyal to the new prince, Bashir starts to question not only himself but his orders too. His errors could end up putting the life of the ruler in danger– the same one that he said that he would protect.
Both of them are going to have to make serious choices as a result of this war. She has to figure out whether she wants to stay a spy or stand and give her powerful magic that is completely untamed to the Sultana of Tamar. Bashir has to figure out whether he wants to stay as a guard who is loyal and does not question anything or figure out how he can trust not only his instincts but his heart too.
The couple in question are magical in how they match in opposition. One is stone, the other is wind. Sometimes you can find balance in the chaos, and now that Bashir has laid eyes on Aysel, he’s not sure how he can continue to live his life without her. He has always needed her in some way, and now that she has appeared into his world he needs her. Can he handle what he needs to while also finding himself in Aysel? Read this second book in the Mages of the Wheel series to find out!
