Her time in France included literature studies at the Catholic University of the West in Angers, where she picked up the nickname “Renée,” which later helped form her pen name along with her mother’s maiden name.

She also earned a master’s degree in film direction gained from the New Bulgarian University, which shows how her love for stories moved across books and movies.
