Early and Personal Life

Andrea Faye Gibson came into the world on August 13, 1975, in the small town of Calais, Maine. Their dad, Mark, delivered mail for the post office, and their mom, Shirley, handled paperwork as a secretary at a technical college. Gibson grew up with one sister named Laura inside a household that followed strict Baptist rules and held socially conservative values.

For college, Gibson went to Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, a Catholic school in Standish. They earned a spot on the basketball team, which paid for much of their education, and in 1997 they left with a degree in English. That mix of sports and books gave Gibson a broad view of the world and a quiet push toward putting words on the page.

After some time in New Orleans with a girlfriend, the pair relocated to Boulder, Colorado in 1999. Gibson stepped into the Mercury Cafe in Denver for an open mic night and walked out with a new goal to become a spoken word performer. By 2005, they said goodbye to a classroom job as a Montessori teacher and started writing full time, a path they followed until they sadly passed away from ovarian cancer on July 14, 2025, at age 49, in their Longmont home, leaving behind a strong and powerful literary legacy.

Writing Career
