Gabriela Martins

Gabriela Martins is a Brazilian author and linguist who writes stories for children and young adults. Living in Brazil, she brings her knowledge of language into her work, which helps her create dialogue and narration that feel natural and unforced. Her books often center on Brazilian characters, and those characters tend to go through two big life experiences: finding themselves and finding love.

One of Martins’s main strengths as a writer is how she builds her protagonists. She does not just describe them from the outside. Instead, she lets readers see their small worries, their quiet hopes, and the way they change over time. That careful attention makes her characters memorable, and it also makes her stories more entertaining because the reader starts to actually care about what happens next.

Martins also entertains readers around the world by staying true to her own background and voice. She does not try to write stories that feel generically international. Instead, she pulls from Brazilian culture, everyday speech, and real life emotions she knows well. That honesty comes through on every page, and readers from different countries often say her work feels fresh and new exactly because it is not trying to please everyone.

Looking ahead, Gabriela Martins shows no sign of slowing down. She continues to write and develop new stories that will likely feature more Brazilian characters finding their way through love and self discovery. Her fans around the world can expect the same honest, entertaining style she has already built her name on. Simply put, there is more good work on the way from a writer who knows exactly what she wants to say.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Gabriela Martins found an early interest in reading that slowly turned into a love for writing. Like many young readers, she spent time with books that made her feel seen and curious about the world. That early habit of reading eventually planted the seeds for her later work as an author and linguist.

As she got older, Martins carried that love for stories into her work as a high school teacher. Being in a classroom every day showed her how young people think, feel, and talk, and that experience became a quiet source of inspiration for her own writing. She learned to craft characters and situations that feel honest and warm, partly because she spent years listening to real teenagers.

Today, Martins writes full time from home, often with a cup of coffee nearby and two cats keeping her company. She has grown as an author by staying close to the things she knows: Brazilian life, real emotions, and small everyday moments that feel true. Her path from a bookish kid in Porto Alegre to a published author shows how a simple love of reading can turn into a lasting career.

Writing Career

Gabriela Martins began her writing career in 2021 with the release of Like A Love Song, her first young adult romance novel. That book came out through Random House under their Underlined imprint, and it was quickly followed by a second romance called Bad At Love in 2022. Both early works helped establish her as a fresh voice in YA romance, with stories that center on Brazilian characters and their emotional journeys.

Beyond her solo novels, Martins has also contributed to a horror anthology titled Our Shadows Have Claws, published by Algonquin. That collection focuses on Latinx voices and themes, and her participation shows a willingness to work across different genres. She continues to write new material, so her career is still growing, and readers can expect more books from her in the future.

Like a Love Song

Gabriela Martins authored the Young Adult contemporary romance “Like a Love Song,” which was published on August 3, 2021. The book came out through Underlined, an imprint of Delacorte Press.

Natalie is a young Brazilian pop star who is living her dream of topping the charts. That changes when she gets broken up with on live television in a very public and humiliating way. Her public relations team comes up with a plan to give her a fake boyfriend, and Natalie agrees to it even though she is not happy about it. The boy she gets is not the fierce bad boy she wanted but instead a soft hearted British indie film actor named William, and over time she starts to fall for him while also worrying that she herself is the biggest fake of all.

Readers will find this story fun and easy to enjoy. The mix of pop star drama and a fake romance keeps things interesting from start to finish. Watching Natalie grow and question what is real feels honest without being heavy. This book offers a light, upbeat read for anyone who likes music and young adult love stories.

Bad at Love

Gabriela Martins wrote the Young Adult romance novel “Bad at Love.” This book was published on August 30, 2022. The publisher for this title was Underlined, an imprint of Delacorte Press.

Daniel moved to Los Angeles from Brazil to be in a band called Mischief and Mayhem, and since then the tabloids have labeled him a bad boy. He gets followed by paparazzi and admired by many girls, but Sasha is not one of them because she claims to dislike bad boys. Sasha works as an intern at a celebrity gossip magazine and sees a chance to get close to Daniel in order to write a story that could boost her own career. Daniel turns out to be surprisingly sweet and very cute, but he is also hiding a secret, and Sasha must choose between following her heart or publishing the biggest story of the summer.

Many will once again find that this book hard is to put down once the two main characters meet. The mix of music, tabloid life, and a hidden secret keeps the pages turning. Watching Sasha question whether she trusts her own feelings adds a nice layer of tension. It is a fun and quick read for anyone who enjoys romance with a little mystery.
