What ends up happening when you have a career that you love but that doesn’t love you back? Hannah Selinger will end up being able to tell you first hand that if you want to be a good restaurant employee, sometimes the best solution is to be invisible.

Selinger was at the top of her career working as a server and sommelier at some of the most famed institutions for dining in New York. While there, she was the person that made sure everything was perfect in the ways that you didn’t see. She would fold your napkin while you were visiting the restroom or would be the employee who slipped through a side door to go home into the night after serving meals to customers that were priced at more than her rent.

When she was working, she was rubbing shoulders with many different food celebrities of the time (the early 2000’s) such as Bobby Flay, David Change, Johnny Iuzzini and more. The position that she held allowed her to be part of a life that she never expected– one that involved tasting courses, fancy parts, and expensive wines. It’s a rare world that gets romanticized in endless movies and television shows. However, the good part of being invisible is that people mostly forget that you are there and the majority of them act a lot differently when they believe that no one is paying attention.

This book shows the rise and the fall of the restaurant business as pertaining to Hannah. It starts out with the pub where she falls in love with the industry and concludes with her serving celebs at Nick & Toni’s. Follow along with the author on her journey as she discovers the joys of fine dining, the allure of power, and what you need in order to walk away from the career you love when it doesn’t serve you any longer by getting your hands on a copy of Cellar Rat: My Life in the Restaurant Underbelly today.

Valley of the Moms is a 2026 book by Hannah Selinger. This book was an instant bestseller on USA Today in a thriller that shows the untruths, grievances and politics that exist in a small town that appears to be quaint on the surface but is actually quite complicated. Looking for a fresh new book to enjoy this year? Go no further!

Hamilton, Massachusetts is one of those towns in the suburbs that appears to be completely untouched by the outside world. Here moms who stay at home wear diamond studs to the playground. A million dollar property is deemed to be affordable here, and the Parent Teacher Organization never fails to provide drama and controversy.

Some people here have a tough time making ends meet. Residents feel that discussing matters such as these are not polite. Hamilton has been like this for a long time and nearly everyone prefers it that way and likes it to be that way– or nearly everyone.

Anna Plummer doesn’t dislike Hamilton, but it just was never her dream to be somewhere like this. She never anticipated that she would be married with two kids and comfortable but getting more bored than she ever thought that she could be by the minute.

When she finds out that her second grade child is not going to be able to go to the Ziti with Your Sweetie themed school dance just because she didn’t shell out cash for a Premium membership, Anna ends up snapping. She decides to send a bold email to the president of the PTO, someone who is known for being terrifying, and all hell ends up breaking loose as a result.

It’s been a year later. Anna has been discovered dead in the Ipswich River, which is frozen. Her husband Denny is the one left to pick everything up and has been shaken to the core. He is not an expert on anything but has seen enough Dateline episodes on television to understand that the police are going to be keeping their eye on him and believe he is the main suspect.

But he knows that he didn’t do it and if there are people out there that refuse to find justice for his wife, he’ll just have to get it done himself. With a shocking twist, this book takes a look at grief, wealth, social status, and the secrets that people choose to keep.

This book was picked as one of Town & Country’s Must-Read Books of Summer 2026. It was also picked as one of People Magazine’s Best Books of Summer. It was a Apple Books June Staff Pick, a Goodreads Guide to Summer’s Biggest Mysteries & Thrillers Pick, a Publishers Lunch Buzz Books of the Summer selection, a CrimeReads Great Mysteries Set in the Boston Area selection, and was picked as one of The Express Magazine Summer 2026’s Darkest Page Turners.
