Publication Order of Standalone Novels

Rhiannon Navin is a published author originally from Germany.

The author grew up in Bremen, Germany. She came from a family where all of the women loved to read. She pursued a career in advertising, which would end up taking her to New York City. There she worked for different large agencies.

Rhiannon eventually pivoted and got married. She would then become a full-time author and mother. She resides outside of NYC these days, sharing her home with her three children, her husband, some cats and a dog. Her debut novel is titled Only Child.

Only Child is a 2018 book by Rhiannon Navin. It is her first book. If you have been looking for something new to add to your reading list, this just might be a great pick! Real Simple praised the debut novel, calling it perfect for ‘fans of Room’ and saying that it was a ‘heartbreaking but important novel’.

If you’re someone who loved works by authors such as Liane Moriarty and Jodi Picoult, you may also enjoy this tender debut that is all about family and healing. The narrator is a boy of six years old who shows the readers that sometimes it is those with the smallest bodies that have the largest hearts, as well as the fact that sometimes it is the quietest voice that can be the loudest.

Zach Taylor is a little boy in first grade, and the book sees him squeezed into a coat closet, sharing the space with his teacher and classmates. He is able to clearly hear the gunshots that are going off in the hallways of the school. There is no ambiguity about what is happening. A gunman has come into the building and by the time that they are done they will have taken nineteen lives– and altered the fabric of this close community forever.

In the aftermath, everyone in this community is shaken up and they deal with it in their own individual ways. Zach’s mother decides to go after the shooter’s parents in a vehement quest for justice, believing that they are personally responsible for what their son did and advocating to hold them accountable.

At the same time, Zach is dealing with the event in his own ways. He retreats into his secret hideout and spends hours there, losing himself intentionally in books and art. But he eventually develops a deeper understanding and sets out with his own sense of childlike stubbornness and optimist to go on his own journey to move towards forgiveness, healing, and love.

Through his quest, Zach is determined to do what he can to assist all of the adults in his life with finding once more the truths of love and compassion that they all really need as they navigate this event and what comes after.

Will his journey have a profound impact or will he find that his good heart is not enough to provide a salve for all the pain that people he knows are experiencing? Read this heartfelt book from Rhiannon Navin to find out– get a copy of Only Child to follow along with every word.
