John “Slim” Hardy is a disgraced soldier who has become a private detective. He’s gone on holiday so that he can run away from the nightmares of his last case, but as he does so, he comes upon something that has been buried in the peat on Bodmin Moor.

The old clock is unfinished and water-damaged but is still ticking. It also ends up giving a vital clue as it is relevant to a missing persons case that has yet to go unsolved. Slim starts asking questions in the small Cornish village of Penleven, but as he does, he ends up being pulled further into a world of lies as well as secrets and rumors, some of which the local people would prefer to stay buried.

It was 23 years previous that a clock maker decided to leave his workshop and go into Bodmin Moor, taking his last clock with him that is totally unfinished and he went missing. Slim wants nothing more than to find out why. What will he discover and will he be happy about it or will he find out that he is in over his head? Read this engaging book from Jack Benton to find out!
