E.R. Ramzipoor is a first generation queer Iranian-American author. Their pronouns are they/them.

E.R. says that they think and write about the intersection where power, language, technology and identity come together. Their work has been nominated for a Pushcart as well as translated into different languages so her readers can enjoy it and being optioned for television. Ramzipoor has taught courses and also worked to lead writing workshops that take place all over the country.

In addition to writing, Ramzipoor also works as a content marketer and writes about cyber crime and online fraud. They teach the advanced yearlong class in speculative fiction for Hugo House and will continue their career with more novels as well as a collection of short stories that they are working on. The author says that they think a lot about Lada, their dog.

Based out of California, Evan Roxanna Ramzipoor attended UC Berkeley, where they studied political science. There the future author researched underground literature in resistance movements, thereby finding the forgotten story of Faux Soir. Ramzipoor has also taught writing at UC Berkeley and The Loft Literary Center. Their writing has been published in McSweeney’s and Salon and the author’s first novel was The Ventriloquists.

Helene is a street orphan who at 12 years old is making it through the tough times by living as a boy while selling copies of Le Soir, the most popular newspaper in the country. It’s since been transitioned into Nazi propaganda.

Helene’s world ends up shifting when she makes friends with a journalist named Marc Aubrion. He ends up pulling her into a secret network that is busy publishing dissident underground newspapers. The Nazis track down Aubrion’s team and confront them with a tough choice. They can either turn the resistance newspapers into a Nazi popaganda bomb that will ultimately serve the function of influencing public opinion against the Allies or they will have to be killed.

Aubrion does not like the choice but then he has a flash of genius. He comes up with a solution that will personally work. They will pretend to do what the Nazis want but instead will come out with a fake version of the paper that mocks Hitler and Stalin, choosing to laugh in the face of those who oppress them.

The ventriloquists have chosen to put their lives on the line for a joke. With just 18 days to tell it to the masses, can they make the most of it? With great historical detail and an incredible cast of characters, this author’s debut is one that readers will not want to miss and showcases the courageous acts that everyday people have taken that will be forgotten to time, as well as an ode to how important the written word is and the heroes of this story.
