Some things run in people’s blood. When an annual weekend getaway takes place for the adult children of serial killers, things take a turn for the worse when someone turns up dead. The participants are there to commiserate about their unique situations in life, but it turns out that one of their number might be following in their relative’s footsteps.
Lots of people have parents that they wouldn’t prefer, but for the kids of serial killers, having a parent that is a bummer is an understatement. Now Nicola Fischer finds herself joining their ranks when her father gets convicted of killing five women. These included her best friend. But no one ends up feeling sorry for her. Instead she gets thrust right into the limelight and hounded by the press.
To top it all off, she also gets fired from her job. She passed the time by doom-scrolling and calling Greer Woods while drunk. They’re the host of To Catch a Killer, and the one who solved the case– and ended up ruining everything that was going on in Nicola’s life. Then they disappeared from view with the damage done.
Nicola at last hears from Greer when an email from the host appears in her inbox. There isn’t an apology like she expected, just a strange invitation. The Death Row Club is a weekend getaway that takes place for the adult kids of serial killers, a club that Nicola now belongs to whether she wants to or not.
It’s not the best idea in the world, but Nicola could also use a break from her really small town right about now. The timing is just right. She takes on the offer without thinking twice about it and is looking forward to bonding with the other attendees who will turn out to be just as interesting as they are slightly unhinged. But that should be expected of people belonging to such a club as this.
When a guest shows up at the wilderness retreat that was not invited, everyone is scared and on high alert. The next morning, their paranoia ends up turning to fear. One of the group is dead, leaving the rest to question who killed them and why.
It’s all too natural to suspect one of their own since they are all the descendants of killers. It could be in their genetics, in their very blood. Could it be one of the group that is there or is it an outside interloper? Could this just be an unfortunate coincidence?
Nicola is determined to find out who did this and why. This was supposed to be just an innocent chance to get away from all the pressure of her life and get a break from murder that she desperately needed. Instead she is dealing with death all over again. Could this be a chance for her to process everything that she’s been through while also bringing the culprit to justice? Read The Death Row Club by V.A. Vazquez to find out!
