The Witch’s Orchard is the first book in the fictional Annie Gore series by Archer Sullivan. Have you been looking for a good mystery but don’t know where to start? Check this story out and see what you think in a novel that was a USA Today bestseller and Shamus Award Finalist.

Set in the mountains of North Carolina, this roller coaster of a story features private investigator Annie Gore. Mystery and suspense fans will be up reading this book late into the night as they turn the pages to find out what happens next in this difficult-to-put-down debut.

Annie Gore was a private investigator with the Air Force but has since joined civilian life. She signed up for the military and enlisted right after graduating high school in an attempt to put some distance between herself and her childhood home life and memories. While those days may be over, she’s been able to successfully carry the skills she learned being a private eye in the military over to regular life.

Now Annie is paying the bills as a private investigator, even if it’s not as lucrative as she would like. Still, the cases eventually come in once the other ones dry up, and this latest one is going to transport her to an Appalachian holler that is not all dissimilar from the one she herself grew up in.

It was just a decade ago that three young girls disappeared from their small town in the mountains. It was a terrible case that affected everyone in the area. Fortunately one of them ended up being returned, but to everyone’s horror the other two missing little girls were never seen or heard from again.

A long time has passed and no answers have ever been found. Some of the family members of the missing girls have not given up and the brother of one of them expresses his desire to hire an outsider to get a fresh pair of eyes on the case. Perhaps after all this time, they will at last be able to find some answers.

Out of all the private investigators and detectives in the country to choose from, the brother wants Annie. She’s from a mountain town and while it may not be the same one, that level of understanding and familiarity will come in handy. She understands it and understands mountain people. The brother is confident that Annie is the right person for the job.

Perhaps this time around they will finally be able to get the answers that have eluded them. Annie is game for any case that pays the bills and is reasonable to her, so she takes it on. She is driving into the hills to take on a very old case that has been cold for years. Annie knows that it could very well be a fool’s errand, but she will end up getting paid whether she finds leads or not and could really use the money.

Desperate to shore up her bank account and generate some cash, Annie readies herself as she makes her way towards the small mountain town. Even if it ends up sparking painful memories of her own, she’s got to do her best to tackle this case. If she does it right, she’ll have some money to put in the bank and some answers– and maybe even good news– for the family of the girls who went missing all those years ago.

Armed with powerful motivation, Annie takes on the gig and starts getting to work immediately upon arriving. She does her best to start a journey to find the truth while she makes her way through a decade of secrets, wading through local folklore and doing her best to locate some clues in a case so painful that most of the town prefers to try and forget that it ever happened.

You cannot blame the inhabitants of this small town for not wanting to linger on such a heartbreaking tragedy. But the relatives of the missing girls have no choice about the pain they endure daily. Their only hope for relief is for Annie to find some answers. Can she find the truth in a case long gone cold and bring some peace? Read this first book of the series to find out.

Brimstone Hollow is the second book in the Annie Gore series by Archer Sullivan. Thought that the suspenseful first book was good? See what adventures everyone’s favorite private investigator gets up to by reading this action-packed sequel that will take you back to the mountains of Appalachia and into another world entirely.

Annie Gore is familiar with the rolling hills of the Appalachian Mountains, but she had no idea that she would get so many cases from there. She’s been spending more time apart from her office in Louisville in these types of small towns than she would have thought. But Annie can’t afford to be picky when she also needs to pay the bills.

A new client asks if she’s ever been to a church that handles snakes, and Annie knows she’s about to move into strange territory. Katie May’s father was a snake-handling preacher but they haven’t talked in twenty years. When she finds out that he was bit and died, with a funeral materializing within twenty-four hours, her first thought is that someone rushed it all to cover something up.

Annie takes on the case, seeing something of herself in Katie. Can she find the truth for her client before it’s too late? Or is someone out there willing to do whatever it takes to stop the investigation? Check out the second book in the Annie Gore series to find out!
