Dionne Lister

Dionne Lister is an Australian author who writes across two main genres. She creates stories for young adults in the fantasy space, and she also writes cozy mysteries for adults. Her work has reached a wide audience, and she holds the title of USA Today bestselling author. This recognition speaks to the broad appeal of her books.

One of her notable strengths lies in the way she builds her characters. Her protagonists are carefully drawn and feel genuine, which makes them easy for readers to connect with. These characters are not flat or predictable; they have depth and react to their worlds in believable ways. This attention to character work makes her narratives feel grounded, even when the settings are fantastical or full of puzzles.

Her storytelling is known for being engaging and smooth. She has a natural ability to weave plots that keep readers curious about what happens next. The mysteries she writes are clever, and her fantasy worlds are inventive without being overly complicated. Overall, her books are enjoyable reads that offer a good balance of heart, suspense, and satisfying resolution.

Lister entertains readers around the globe by staying true to her own voice. She does not follow trends or try to copy what is popular at the moment. Instead, she writes the kinds of stories she genuinely enjoys. This honesty comes through on the page and gives her work a fresh, authentic feel.

Her books travel well across different cultures because the emotions and relationships feel universal. The friendships, the small betrayals, the quiet moments of doubt, and the bursts of courage are all things anyone can understand. She layers these human experiences into her fantasy plots and mystery puzzles. That mix of the familiar and the imaginative is what keeps her international audience coming back.

At the same time, she never loses sight of her Australian roots or her personal sense of humor. Her characters often carry a dry wit, and her settings carry a warmth that feels distinctly hers. She writes for herself first, but that personal touch ends up being exactly what readers connect with. Her global success is a direct result of her refusal to compromise her own style.

Looking ahead, Dionne Lister shows no signs of slowing down. She continues to work on new projects that will expand both of her main series. Her fans can look forward to more adventures and more puzzles in the years ahead. The future holds plenty more stories from this consistent and dedicated author.

Early and Personal Life

Dionne Lister grew up in Sydney and always had a strong imagination. As a child, she spent a lot of time daydreaming, often gazing out the window during primary school. That habit naturally led her to start putting those thoughts down on paper, and she knew from an early age that she wanted to be an author.

For many years, though, writing remained just a hobby. She worked as a property valuer in Sydney, which was her full-time job. It was not until her mid-thirties that she decided to go back to school and earn a degree in creative writing.

After finishing her studies, she began to focus on her craft more seriously. She now writes while raising two children with her husband. Her home also includes two Siamese cats, and she is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

Writing Career

Dionne Lister launched her writing career with the Circle of Talia fantasy series. The first book, Shadows of the Realm, came out in 2012, followed by two sequels over the next couple of years. She then began the Rose of Nerine series, with Tempering the Rose arriving in 2016 and Forging the Rose following in 2022.

Her work expanded significantly into the cozy mystery space with the Paranormal Investigation Bureau series. That series went on to include over twenty books, starting with Witchnapped in Westerham in 2018 and continuing through Witch Smuggled in Westerham in 2024. She also started the Haunting Avery Winters series in 2021, has written a few novellas and short stories, and contributed to a multi-author project, with her career clearly still moving forward.

Witch Undercover in Westerham

The paranormal cozy mystery Witch Undercover in Westerham was published on October 16, 2018. It is the third title in the Paranormal Investigation Bureau series. The book was released by the author herself, Dionne Lister.

When her art teacher disappears, Lily takes on an undercover role to find the person responsible. She believes she has identified the culprit, but she is not entirely certain. At the same time, a man shows up looking for payback over his brother’s death, and he has Lily in his sights. Life as a witch is proving to be more complicated than she ever expected, and she could really use a strong coffee right about now.

Readers are likely to find this story engaging and full of surprises. The main character’s undercover mission adds a layer of excitement to the plot. The personal danger she faces makes the stakes feel very real. Overall, the book offers a fun and entertaining experience for mystery fans.

Witch Haunted in Westerham

The book Witch Haunted in Westerham came out on June 26, 2019. It is the seventh installment in the Paranormal Investigation Bureau series. The author, Dionne Lister, again handled the publishing duties for this title.

The Paranormal Investigation Bureau is worried that the town might empty out completely if they do not find the cause soon. Lily steps in with her camera to help solve the mystery and stop the panic. The question is whether she can crack the case in time, or if everyone will have to leave the village for good.

Many will enjoy the spooky yet playful tone of this story. The mystery surrounding the ghosts keeps the pages turning with ease. Lily’s efforts with her camera add a clever twist to the investigation. This book offers a light and satisfying read for anyone who likes a good paranormal puzzle.
